It's made in Korea, I'm led to believe. Definitely not as fast as a Jag.

Ok but nothing special.

Had them on fleet when I worked for the Scottish purveyor of motor cars a few years back and they were decent enough, decent spec and reasonably comfy. Nothing to get excited about but very dependable.

My mate had one of these new on a 10 plate on a 3 year lease for kia. He was never an under the bonnet chap anyway, I had to top the screen's up on it the first time as he didn't know where the bottle was, and I don't think it had anything wrong with it. Tyres when needed and a service by kia every year.

Was passenger a fair bit in it and it shifted well enough, sat at 85 without complaint and was comfier and nicer to be in that a spankers new 316d that another colleague got as a company car 5 months before he left. Was fairly well specced too, USB and I think shatnav.

He's got a new rio now, says it's just as good so far

From the new Picantos thread:

"The only Kias we had i didnt likr were a load of previous model 11 plate Rio 1.4 '1' specs, 96bhp engine so quite nippy, decent stereo, USB socket etc but other than that utter crap, wiper stalk on the left, indicators on the right, no central locking (proper PITA) felt really tinny, cheap and crap, scratchy plastics, thin carpets, thin paint which looks scruffy very quickly, horrible driving position impossible to get an ideal position to both the steering wheel and pedals, either steering wheel position ideal but too far away from pedals or pedal position ideal but cuddling steering wheel, never experienced that on any car before and seats so uncomfortable they'd give the healthiest person on the planet chronic back pain within half an hour, however I'm told the new Rio is a huge improvement and it certainly looks much more stylish."

Not my opinion btw, that of Mr Hendry.

I looked at one in my GalaxyQuest for another WBOD, a 2005 dizzle with 40K miles for £2400. Dizzzler Donk is of Mitsubishi oranges I am led to believe through my interweb searching but internally I wasnt that impressed.

Seats germanically hard.

Plastics very plastic and flimsy feeling.

Door seems to intrude into seating space if you are in any way shape or form a fat knacker.

Oh yeah!

Had a new 1.5TD on a 55 plate. Super little car and regretted selling it. It was indecently quick and apart from a couple of knackered tyres due to me knocking the tracking out scudding over Middleham moor absolutely nowt broke. I'd have another without question.

Sorry if I've missed this, but what Honda have you got that you might be wanting to part with? I may potentially be interested...

We have a previous gen Kia Rio, its very practical but not very refined and as others have said, all the controls are in the opposite place to where you expect to find them and the plastics are a bit cheap, however it is very reliable. From some superficial research the petrol engines are Mazda's B-Series so fairly well proven.

I think the newer gen ones are a bit less obviously made to a budget - though ultimately they are a budget car.

To quote Car Magazine "Her name is Rio and she's Crap"

Irrelevant really as it was the awful mk1 Rio But it made me chuckle at the time.

I've driven a 2007 (or something, the mk 2) 1.4 petrol and it seemed perfectly OK. Interiors are cheap in a late 90s/early 00s Hyundai/Kia way.

Even the (common rail) diseasels don't seem to grenade that much after looking into them on the net, still not sure I'd sink my own money into a modern diseasel though.

The equivalent of Tesco own brand baked beans. Just a car, no more, no less, inoffensive and probably won't break much.

Hyundai i20 might be worth a look at well, there do seem to be plenty about. I think they are about the size of the current Fiesta.

They're a bit horrible looking, pure middle of the road, white goods style. They're probably OK to drive though, in a mid 40's, given up on life kind've way. ;)

Importantly this has 2 yrs/26,000 miles warranty left. Buy for £3,000.  Sell after 2 yrs for £1,500.  Hassle free motoring for £2 per day.  Good mpg, low insurance, £30 tax.  I have a 2011 Venga and it's ace.  Picanto's are ace too.
