Jim Bell Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Some cars do react very badly to finding out they're to be sold. HillmanImp, chaseracer and eddyramrod 3
eddyramrod Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Don't I know it! Before I found I had my own troubles, I was quietly interested in this baby. My stepdaughter had a red F some years ago and I got to drive it, which was fun. At the right price I might have been up for my own slice of the action; this was at the right price. However... even the thought of selling the Sable has brought out the bloody-mindedness in it.
Station Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 I have to replace the temp sender with a new one as I understand selling these cars with the temp gauge at maximum might be difficult to explain. As soon as you turn the key the gauges shoots up to max. Does anyone have that metal thing that has the two senders in (black and brown) that I can buy? The plugs have more structural strength than the metal and if they're stuck it snaps it lol.
Station Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Here we go, went back 130 miles, with a new temp sender thingy from a local (muddy) scrapyard. Did I tell you I broke the key in the fuel filler plug at the petrol station? It can be opened with a blade screwdriver now - have removed lock mech from the plug and will hopefulyl get the bit of key out (it was the spare) and then put it back together again. Not buying a new plug though, sorry. Clamping off the pipes, fitting new temperature sensor(s) elbow to front of head: Plugs were in poo condition from fitting the new engine a while ago, so changed them both as well: The old one: Lost all the coolant: So put the proper required OAT stuff in: Back down today, another 130 miles. Gauge is now back to normal, it always sits between here and the midway mark once it warms up - is everyone else's K-series the same? It has done nearly 600 hard miles in a couple of weeks. It's booked in for a retest tomorrow, so will be available for sale once again if it passes (groan).
Taff Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 My temp gauge sits about there as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
purplebargeken Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Looks spot on. Just mark the original level and keep an eye on it.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 My tip for selling old shitters is, get it into a saleable condition then put it up for sale! not before. If you are fannying about sorting this and that ‘during’ the sale it just gives potential buyers a headache and makes them think they’re dealing with PandaSelecta. Do I need to change the petrol cap? Am I going to have a battle when I want to fill it up? Is the MOT sorted or what? Is the cooling system alright now? Oh, do you know what its all too much this. Cavcraft 1
cort16 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I always do that. I wait until someone coming to see it before remembering that I really needed to get around to that broken electric window switch or massive hole in the exhaust. I then spend hours running around trying to fix it before giving up and selling the car for half what I wanted for it.
Station Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Yeah, it's not ebay or gumtree though. I admit it would look strange on there. But this is a forum and it's a cheap car, and I'm adding on bolster and kudos to my for sale thread by showing the continued work I'm doing on it to get it through the MOT.You don't have to take in the extra information if you don't want to, and I feel for you if you are strained because of it. The agenda is pure and simple - £450 with 12 months MOT and I haven't strayed from that. Not much point pointing it out or arguing about it really. DeeJay 1
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Fair enough. dont worry about me straining, I can hack it
Station Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 I wasn't having a go, I personally don't like going back and forth and then updating with promises and then coming back again etc.
Station Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 One day late for the retest, had to book it in for another full test for fifty quid. Sacked it off and brought it back up north. Booked it in for another MOT up here and took the day off. Went to pick the car up and tester couldn't do it because it wouldn't go on the ramp (?). Sacked the whole car off and dumped it back in front of my mates house, hope I never have to set eyes on it again.
Pillock Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 My temp gauge sits there too. Oil temp always sits low, bit apparently that's normal. dugong 1
Taff Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 My temp gauge sits there too. Oil temp always sits low, bit apparently that's normal. my oil temp barely creeps above the start point. Mind you, I think it's the shittest gauge-scale ever, it's not even set out logically. It does my OCD no good, I can tell you
Pillock Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Yeah, the scale is wonky so I think normal is barely registering. There's a few folk on other forums that claim it goes high, but they are the sort of owners who discuss tyre pressures for best cornering and appear to be driving hard. There's also two gauges, and two senders. If you mismatch it reads wrong, can be corrected with a resistor. Taff 1

My ex FiL used to restore MGAs and he would spend weeks sourcing the correct size and type of wire hose clamps & polishing inside his exhaust pipe. My rusty Triumph Spitfire held together with duct tape and stolen metric bolts forced into UNF captive threads used to cause him to flush with anger and blow smoke signals on his pipe. catsinthewelder, Grundig, Bobthebeard and 2 others 5
Taff Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Why wouldnt it go on the ramp man? I can't get my trolley jack under mine but I suspect it has sunk a bit. The rather harsh ride is fun though, and now I've got 12 months ticket I have no intention of jacking it up until Feb 2016 Jim Bell 1
purplebargeken Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Taff, 20 quid on a hydrogas pump up would transform it mate, seriously.
Craig the Princess Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Free one is available if you pass Wisbech. dugong 1
Station Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Craig, whissat? Free? The car wouldn't go on as it is slightly lower than normal and he admits he has a stupid ramp and has this problem all the time, my Starion clipped the front spoiler and it's not lowered. He also claimed it overheated as it was spitting water out after running it. I soiled my pants with worry but found I hadn't put a hose on properly on that new coolant pipe. FEW. John F Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 What's the current state of play with this?? Oor lass has seen it and likes it
Taff Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Taff, 20 quid on a hydrogas pump up would transform it mate, seriously. it's on the list for payday mate, along with a back wax and some onion rings. I'm living the dream, me dugong 1
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 ^^^^LOL Where are you taff? I have a hydro pump as well, available in Nantwich, (cheshire) or Derby, you are welcome to get a 'fix' off it
dugong Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I may have to make use of this free Wisbech hydragas pump, I can pay in rancid Polish lager if you like. MOCNE
