1994 Audi Cabriolet 2.6 V6 manual. The last from a collection of a guy giving up classic cars, sad really and like all his cars good to own. I used it for 2015 Shitefest. Last year I was telling a friend I could not face changing the heater matrix and he said I will buy it then!

1995 Jaguar Soveriegn 4.0. I had to work on a Saturday and spotted this Jaguar at a low price on ebay, I messaged some friends and three of us decided to get it together and buy it that night. One loaned it to his Australian father in law for a month and gifted his share to the remaining two of us. A few months later my friend swapped it for a MG TF, then he sold the MG TF and that chapter was over.

1996 Audi 2.6i manual Coupe. My Audi Cabriolet arrived as a non runner and somebody had pulled the fuse/relay box apart and it was baffling my local garage. I had seen a MOT failed Coupe for sale in Essex and suggested I got it. He said I know one locally so we got it to rob for my Cabriolet. With another car as a paten he soon had the convertible back together and the fault was not the wiring simply a seized fuel pump which was replaced with a new one. We then had the Coupe intact and the garage said there is very little wrong with it, I can easily do the bits and get you a MOT! I sold it as I had the Cab, I don’t know why but I am happy that it has just been MOTed again until Jan 2020.

1998 Citroen C15D van. Bought without MOT and unfortunately it needed lots of welding and it never returned to the road.

1996 BMW M3 Evo Convertible. Rather non Autoshite but as the adverts used to say “ultimate driving machine” 321 bhp, 6 speed manual RWD no nanny control electronics. It needs a new roof covering now and that is going to hurt!

Hasn't this got VANOS? That's not exactly cheap if/when it goes wrong!

Hasn't this got VANOS? That's not exactly cheap if/when it goes wrong!

The Evo is twin Vanos which is why I bought it from a BMW specialist who claims the Vanos amongst lots of things had been rebuilt. I drove it home 176 miles and it would not restart, when I did get it going I took it a my local BMW specialist who quoted £3000 to fix the Vanos problem.

The seller claimed it was a 17 year old car and he could not be expected to guarantee it and he had a point. However they had advertised it with rebuilt vanos and because they were a specialist BMW garage and enticed me to buy from them I felt they should fix it. An amount of unpleasantness followed but eventually they did fix it for me FOC.

Sounds about right at today's prices. Having said that, I was once shown the parts for VANOS, and there didn't seem to be much there for the money....

1998 BMW 323i manual. Yes dressed up to look like an M3, but run by somebody who maintained it to a high standard as a daily business vehicle. Usual story my friend wanted it sold quickly and easily so came to me, my son took it from me when he damaged my E30 and it was then passed to a friend of my son.

I don't know what's the matter with your Cadillac's cable, but a company in the U.S. called Bushing Fix are selling a selector cable repair kit for $25.

My mobile mech is coming over on Monday to see if we can find a solution to this.

The original problem was the bush that connected the gear selector lever on the gearbox to the selector cable was worn and not moving the lever far enough. Now we have also broken the plastic retaining clip that holds the cable onto the lever.

1989 2CV Dolly. Mrs6C started us early one Saturday by her need to prepare stuff for the AGM of an Orchard Group she belongs to so I has a quick 7 am look at ebay. I noticed a 2CV that I liked the look of so sent messages but still no response at 9.30 am so I called, I was first to ask to see it but he would not be home until 6.30 pm so that gave Mrs Cyl the chance to come with me. Interesting seller with a MG Maestro Turbo, Morris Marina 1.8 saloon and the 2 CV had been replaced with a Nissan Figaro.

The transaction for the 2CV was strange pleasant and interesting with us acting out a scene from “Wheeler Dealers”, I made an offer he rejected it and made a speech about how well priced the car was and how much interest he had in it and suggested a price he would not go below. So I went to agree to that and he said that not how it is done and I should make another offer a little higher than my 1st so I did, he rejected that but came back with a counter offer £50 lower than his lowest price and we did the big handshake. This seller was very pleasant and fun to deal with, gave us all the time we needed to look over the 2CV, honored nobody could see it until we had decided and then gave us a Haynes manual, Restoration book and a few spares after the deal was done. Still with us

Excellent topic  ..so I'm posting just to make sure topic updates come up under my own 'my contents' page.

I do enjoy both your and Mrs6C posts - they are U-rated and colourful, upbeat and motivating - Thank you. B)

I particularly enjoy reading the tales and experiences with the older vehicles like your Triumphs, as I had Spitfires and a Herald sometime back when Maggie-T was PM. And then restored TR's some ten years later.

But, might I enquire - How did you manage to adjust your clock go slower than anyone elses ?  I only ask because you seem to do so much more than most could possibly fit in.!

It’s currently residing in the Northern wastelands (Lancashire) and is in the naughty corner at the moment as the near side indicators decided to pack up during the last MOT...luckily as it was just coming off the ramp rather than going on to it...

1999 E46 BMW 328i 4 door manual. Bought with a short MOT with the view to taking the engine for my E36 328i with a failed HG but turns out to be the wrong engine and to much work to change the wiring etc. Turns out the rear suspension was trying to pull out of the body so I drove it for a bit and sold it off for parts to get my money back.

1983 Citroen Visa Special 652cc. I was talking to the Headmaster from the Visa Forum about buying a Visa Twin that was for sale and told him that it was the one I wanted with an updated front with satellite dash controls and he told me there were only 3 left in the UK so I thought I had better attempt to buy it.

The car was described as in good condition but no MOT so I called and was told it would go straight though. I said why don’t you get it MOTed then and I will buy it. The seller told me he did not want to pay for insurance to take it for MOT so I suggested he got a local garage to collect and deliver. He had it collected and it passed so I bought it! Still with us.

1992 Range Rover 3.9 EFi Vogue SE. Owned for a number of years by a friend but was going to require some welding in the future so he sold it to me. When it was not mine I had taken it for MOT and the fuel pump failed and dumped me requiring the RAC! I sold it to a friend still with 6 months MOT and he did not fancy doing the work and passed it on to a mutual friend who did the work to get it MOTed and is currently having it painted.
