I think it just looks great and somehow old Mercedes just suit me so well. Yes it is a running project but this morning I forgave it its blowing exhaust and all its other issues. Blimey, that's a diverse selection of old motors! Good to see them out in all weathers though.
Six-cylinder Posted February 10, 2022 Author Posted February 10, 2022 Today started well, I collected the E320 Coupe with a fresh MOT and serviced. The instrument lights work again just as @richardmorris said they would with a good twist. The radio was dead and the garage took it out and could find nothing wrong with the wiring so put it back in and it works fine. On the way home I was thinking what a lovely drive it was, but the left indicator started blinking very fast. When I got home and checked if the problem was front or back the whole front unit was missing. Remembering crashing down a pot hole when meeting a car in a lane and having to pull to the edge of the road I went back to look. I found it, but unfortunately it was broken so I have had to order a new one. Snake Charmer, richardmorris and BorniteIdentity 2 1

I think it must be the copy wings not being exactly the right shape. Radio I don’t know- it’s always worked for me - came out of Anna burmajsters pluriel.

Check the spares box, there may be and indicator in it that is slightly less battered.

In spite of the warnings of doom I would still like a Pluriel, but make it a 1.4 manual please.

I admit it should have amber wing repeaters but changed them to match. The originals are in the boot. Six-cylinder 1

I have checked hoping for a orange bulb without any luck as I thought I could tape it back in and keep using it. I found the other indicator unit in the boot but fitting clip is broken.

Six-cylinder Posted February 13, 2022 Author Posted February 13, 2022 There are two broken wire sticking out of the missing indicator hole that look like they have been like that for a while. Any ideas what they are for ? @richardmorris

richardmorris Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 Correction, I think they are supposed to be wired into the secondary plug on the back of the headlamp connector. Brown to brown. Looks like the back piece will unclip.

richardmorris Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 No, that headlamp connector is two in one. The front bit to the headlamp bulb, and the plastic bit on the back is the connector for the side repeater wiring. Sorry, I’m not good at exposing things especially after a Sunday evening.

Six-cylinder Posted February 13, 2022 Author Posted February 13, 2022 Just now, richardmorris said: I assumed you had the bulb and bulb holder in place in the indicator unit! Yes, but it blew the bulb bouncing on the ground.
richardmorris Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 6 minutes ago, Six-cylinder said: Yes, but it blew the bulb bouncing on the ground. Ok. Forget the bits that fell off. What is left on the car needs rewiring. The exposed wires need refitting to the back of the main two pin connector- I said I’d cable tied this together - looks like that broke the wing repeater wiring when the lamp unit fell off. The new unit you have bought will have the headlamp holder.
Six-cylinder Posted February 14, 2022 Author Posted February 14, 2022 I now understand how the repeater plug pushes into the plug for the indicator unit. My wires for the repeater have been broken off the plug. I need to search for my soldering iron and order some dry weather to re-solder the wires to the pins. richardmorris, Mrs6C and Andyrew 3
richardmorris Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 That looks ok. I think I confused matters by referring to the headlamp connector, when I meant bulb connector.

Six-cylinder Posted February 14, 2022 Author Posted February 14, 2022 Wanted SHIPPING CONTAINER! We need some more water proof storage at the FoD and are giving consideration to a 40 ft shipping container. I am shocked at the price which seems to start at £2250. Anybody know of a less expensive shipping container for sale bearing in mind it will have to be transported to Milton Keynes area. Consideration could be given to a 20ft container if the price was right. richardmorris 1
