Where I work, my boss has a shed he lets me keep my car in as I am away from home.  It would house six double deck buses and has a parallel shed that would take two single deck.  Both have pits, which I have used but are intended for commecials (scary).

There is an area of tarmac about three times the size of the shed and another large area at the back.  It has offices and so on.  In a bit of a state but not horrendous.

I'm not suggesting it to anyone as it is arse end of nowhere.  There is loads of unused commercial property there, including one really huge site.  He reckons £200K for it but it hasn't sold; places are worth what you can get for them after all.  So I don't know what it would be worth but not much for sure.

Bet there's a few bus collector types that would sell their granny for that type of facility!

You've nailed the problem, anywhere within reasonable reach of civilisation generally commands a high price, whereas the back of beyond is cheap but real inconvenient (unless you live close to the BOB of course!) due to more limited appeal. Everything where I live is horribly expensive full stop - it's just the way it is.

When I was buying a house, I always looked around (but never found) for my ideal - a de-commissioned country fire station, one that used to house two appliances with all the living room above and a yard out back (fuck gardens, what a waste of space). This would be an ultimate AS resisdence for me, storage, garage, workshop, what else can you want?

Aye; a muttering rotter I worked alongside had just that, the git. It was/is glorious.

This thread has got me thinking.
There is a local unused unit, which has been derelict since i can recall, how do you go about finding who owns such a place ?

And if it is council owned, i wonder if they would loan me a corner for £cheaply£ ... as surely that is better than nothing !?

Interesting thread anyway, and yet again i'm astounded by the knowledge some of you guys have.

I'd contact the council first if their no help then I think they're called the land registry or something and they are supposed to know who owns what.

Then it's the same as everything else, attempt contact and see if you get a reply

I know a bloke who owns the ultimate AS pad.

An ex funeral directors place. Basically a 4 bay garage (for the limos) and a workshop (embalming / storage room) downstairs and a flat above.

2 minutes from the Chinese take away and 5 minutes from the pub.

Git.

I could move there and never have to leave the site, just send out transporters to collect my purchases!

I bet there's some crushing environmental liability associated to it or that chimney swings about in the breeze so needs to come down.

Dunaskin has some listed buildings I believe. I supplied a lot of the material for the 'owner's office' in the museum that was once there. I wonder what they did with the lovely Victorian partners' desk I bought for them.

There will also be issues with contaminated land that would need to be made good before any building work could take place.

It is in the arse end of nowhere though.

But sixty of us with a grand apiece ... or 120 with £500 - bargainous!

I missed the railway, well that's it I will chip in my Ã‚£1000. How long will it take 60 shiters to fill the place!

no, but looking at the pics, I reckon there's £10k in scrap littering the place ...

That's a kilmarnock-built Andrew Barclay saddle tank loco - ex NCB.
