Brainy help needed with Corsa CDTI

Mate up the road has got a Corsa CDTI, 54 plate with about 35000 miles up, it's really mint and looked after like a baby (although it leaks like a sieve inside and seems to be forever going wrong....) but it's got a problem that my mate can't fix - he's an ex heavy vehicle mech and now works as tutor on the subject so he's got access to all the gear....

When started from cold, it won't rev. Give it full throttle even and it gets up to about 2 - 2500 revs and just stays there. No power and sounds shit at idle. As it warms up, it gets better and by the time it's properly warmed up, it's fine!

So far it's been on the computer - no faults. Turbo and actuator checked - no faults. Leak off check done - all good. EGR valve was playing up so it's had a new one, same with the MAF (do diesels have MAFS? - I know the square root of fuck all about modern diesals) but it was replaced with a cheapy one rather than a genuine jobby. Timing chain is quiet and when hot it runs normally, but being a new diesal it takes ages to warm up in this weather.

No one can seem to point in the right direction and the dealers are of course, shit!

Do these have a TB? I know they play up on the pez versions.

As for the leak, I fixed one for a family friend, but that was an ancient and blocked cabin filter. Doubt your mates will be the same.

It's temperature-related so maybe CTS?

I know,, keep changing parts one by one, the fault will clear eventually :D I iz brian-y

Edit: gah, beaten to it again. Hey' it's me suggesting that so we're both gonna be wrong you know.

As above, coolant temperature sensor. My daughter's FIAT Punto (albeit petrol) one did it.

Has all the egr been changed or just the easy solenoid bit ? I've got one in bits at the most and the full valve and cooler looks like an artificial heart once its off. Little swine to get off too.

This one was stuck and it wouldn't start. Then after a few clouts it would start but not rev .

I can help with the leak, on a corsa c if it's leaking in the driver front footwell it's the detachable bulkhead plate that the brake servo is on, they do it because vauxhall used shit sealer that dries out and cracks instead of a gasket, to do it the bottom half of the drivers dash off, steering column off, pedal box out, detach the bonnet release from the kick panel and quite a bit of buggering about, clean the plate up then tiger seal is your friend, as with leaking in the passenger's footwell this is an easier job it's usually a buggered seal on the bcm box lid, i had to do both of these jobs on mrs fp's mums 55 plate corsa c

Yes that's the leak alright. I don't know if all HGV fitters are born bodgers or just him but he's slathered silicone sealant all round that plate rather than take it off. Looks a right mess!

I wondered about the temp thing myself but didn't know modern diesel shit has things like that. I shall tell him.

taking the plate off is a right faff . I use a good quality sealer and apply with a stiff nylon bristles seam sealer brush . Get it damn clean first tho.

I nearly had to seal SWMBO's C in the same place, but luckily I dried the carpet out and we p/x'd it against the Meriva on a dry day...
