Yet another exciting* insurance thread.

I've been shopping around trying to get my premium for the Sterling down, and this month Aviva are offering 30% off policies bought online.

For a 21 year old insuring a big old barge I've just got a VERY good quote.

The offer runs until 31st of this month, so if you need to insure any shite, give them a try!

We use aviva for both our cars, and whilst we won't be eligible for the discount being on out third year, I've always found them very good.

Every year I shop around, and only find policies £10-20 a year cheaper, which combined with having to fuck about finding new deposits etc means I always just renew. Down to £109pm now fully comp on both cars, legal protection on both and swmbo has a curtosey car I think.

I don't have a curtosey car ticked, if I need one I'll come here first and buy whatever's being sold for <£300 to get to work whilst I decide what to do next!

Even with my Direct Line discounts, Avivivivivia are cheaper than anything else I can find. I'm a happy Partridge this morning.

... legal protection on both ...

Surely you only need legal protection once?

Same solicitors, same policy, same benefits, you're just paying for it twice.

It's no use anyway, staffed by fucking idiots on the only occasion I've tried to use it back in 2000.

Never had it since, a saving of £12 X three policies X 15 years = £540+++

Just quoted me twice the price of current insurers...................

Yeah but its discounted   So its a good deal.

Na honestly I take all this insurance discount with a pinch of salt, at the end of the day they all quote the best they can and thats that. There is no way on earth any insurance company will start under selling policies.

Its like cheap wine at Tesco, they stick it on sale for £10 for 7 days then drop it to a fiver and everyone thinks they are getting half price wine, No they are not, it was never worth £10 in the first place.

Weird...I'm getting the cheapest quote from them, even after phoning classic insurance companies.

I did a confused.com quote on the 75 before Christmas, the cheapest weighed in at £581.  Did it again yesterday and it was £281 with Admiral or Elephant.  WTF?  I'm tempted to buy cover now before my March renewal in case it goes up again.  That's also with no NCB as I've been on classic insurance only for the past three years.

I'm with Aviva, the main reason is you can 'administer' your policy entirely online which I like. Only thing is, you still have to ring up once a year and tell them the renewal is too much and what are they gonna do about it, but thats par for the course with all insurance wankers nowadays innit

I wouldn't touch them with a shitty stick after they contacted my broker to cancel my policy 3 months in.

No reason given, they just decided they didn't want to insure me again.

^^How long ago was that? And did you get your money back?

I'm with Aviva. I used to be with Aviva too, but with a home and driver's club policy whatever that was. They wouldn't match their own quote and said I'd have to cancel the renewal and take out the new policy directly. So I did and saved £250.

It might be policy wide rather than individual, but now I think about it I don't know, will be sure to check at the end of next month when they ring me at an inconvenient time to discuss!

As mentioned, I like the online stuff too. When I bought the ZX, I added it as a 3rd car online, printed out the new cert and kept it with me just in case. Couldn't remove the XM though, so had to phone them up and sort that, was fairly painless though, although I use a local number obtained from saynoto0870 so don't really mind being on hold for however long as it's free!

After reading these comments, I looked into it further and I'm not so sure now. There's some seriously shitty reviews online. I know you only the hear the bad, but still...

We've got a multi-car policy with Aviva and had to make a claim (non-fault - someone revered out of a parking space into the side while we were in stationary traffic) before Christmas and I was very pleasantly surprised by how it was all handled.

Accident happened at around 5pm, by 8.30pm we had a date for the car to go in for repairs and free (like for like) courtesy car booked. The repairers they used were most excellent too phoning daily to update me on progress while the car was in.

Unless their renewal is stupid I'll be sticking with them even if they're not the cheapest as they delivered the goods when needed and to me that's easily worth £50 or so over some dodgy mob who'll cause me weeks of hassle and stress.

Last year, my broker used my premium to pay for new cover but Aviva wanted about 150 quid for "covering" me from November-January. My broker never chased me for it and as far as I'm aware don't sell insurance for them anymore. Mine was not an isolated case.

If you go via a cash back site like quidco, you might get another 5% in 3 months.

I have a problem with Aviva. Whatever the renewal price on Honda and Mx5, both will be moved to another provider.

The issues I had. Tried to add daughter after she passed test and online it would not do it. I rang up they said they would not do it. I took out insurance with another provider, at a cost of £2100, and phoned to cancel and they changed their mind, and could do it for £2K.  Luckily I could cancel the other at no cost as it had not started, so I did that (which took an hour). When I phoned up to take them up on their offer they tried to wheedle out. They eventually listened back to the tape, and allowed the policy to go ahead.

Then my son insured his first car with them, obtaining a discount, as we had 2 other cars and the house insured with them.  It cost £1400.  3 months later he moves and they want another £700. He obtains a quote for £680 for 12 months, and cancels Aviva policy, getting £800 back.

1 month later the renewal on the Mini comes through at £3400. Daughter was on her way to university, so we got them to quote without her, and they wanted £350. Which is funny, because it was only £220 before we added her. We went to Direct line for £170.

Result there - currently paying £1000 for 18, £800 for 340.

Did a multi quote on Aviva and it's about £700 for BOTH!

Saved quote to use in March when I renew.
