People been fitting rovers into them for years - small block chevy would be better. LS1?

Hmmm... Just all quickly spot welded together using clamps. Plenty of seams for rust to gain a hold, swell and burst the welds then!

Putting a C20XE engine in a Manta seems to be a popular choice, like this one I spotted in Cholmondley last summer:

I'm guessing the turbo came off an artic or a train, or something.

Chap on the OMOC is fitting a Lexus UZ v8 into a Manta A.....

I also have a Vauxhall 3.2 v6 and Omega box sitting here that was due to go into a Manta, but I ended up with the RS4x4 instead lol

LET (Cavalier Turbo Engine, might be more appropriate.

Its popular because it's a nut and bolt conversion getting it in using manta 1.8 parts

In Germany, Manta drivers (Mantafahrer) are given the same comedy slot as Essex boys in the UK.

Example: What does a Manta driver say to a tree after a crash? – "Why didn't you get out of my way, I used the horn!"

Manta, manta - what a great film, watched it on a German satellite channel about 20 years ago. Obviously no subtitles but it was fairly easy to work out the plot. It sort of celebrated the Manta and its fans in a fairly piss-taking manner. Or I think it did, I'm not sure if the Germans do irony!

I guess a lot of British people related to the Capri in the same way, or certainly did back then. Now all the council estate specials have died the Capri is revered as a timeless classic, but it was a bit of a joke to many in the 1980s and 1990s. So was the Cortina.

A lot of this was pure old fashioned snobbery of course, but there was a bit of truth in it as well.

Edit: there's so much info about this film, it must be a cult hit in Germany. I think this wiki page is English written by a Deutschman. I feel a cheeky DVD purchase is on the cards:http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manta,_Manta. Soundtrack actually sounds decent (well some of it)

Also Manta humour (this is definitely translated from Deutsch): http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manta_joke

I've got "hair envy" they look like a cross between Rolf Harris/timmy mallet/Eddie van halen/Paul calf

I bought a mahoosive spot welder like these about 4 years ago, 3 phase 32 amp which was over 1000amp with air called tips the kickback scared me

I am still awaiting my new starter motor for mine arriving from the UK

Blimey, facial fungus and mullets! Interesting vid, still prefer the Capri though :)

Once I eventually put a few km's on the Manta, I might be in a position to do a Capri v Manta comparison

Posted

Having owned both capri and manta I can say the Capri takes the lead for me, for me, the manta was fun to drive it just wasn't quite as fun to drive as a Capri

There was another Manta film that featured a six wheeled twin steer Manta that must have been hell to drive.

That is Manta Manta Richard, have you not watched it to the end?

Gets into an epic race with a nicely barry-d mk1 Golf

Spoiler alert.
