insurance having a giraffe when I want to change cars

OK.  I have a Mk3 Astra, 1.4, insured with igo4.com which I regret but a long story.

It costs £140 a year with business insurance because I'm old and that is the only advantage of being old that I am aware of.

Few of my friends know this, but I tend to buy and sell the odd motor and try to have another one for January and Feb to keep mine pristine and avoid the salt.

Was given another Mk3 Astra a few days ago, also 1.4, same year.  So what will it cost to change the car over?

£260.  Someone is taking the proverbial.  Would clearly be cheaper to cancel the policy and start again.

Actually was given another Mk3 Astra the week before which is a P reg twin cam (ooh the power) so I tried that.  £360!  I admit that has been written off, so that might load the quote?

But seriously, folks. Insurance in GB sounds like the proverbial compared to ours, so not all the grass is greener ah wreckon.

I was with Igo4, they are a shower of cunts and the cancellation fee is also extortionate

Yup. Costs me $66 a month to insure the GTA, and that's on a 7500 mile per year policy. AND I got a good driver discount.

They gotta offset the cheap gas somehow. Between three vehicles my monthly insurance sum is $410. Nice neighborhood also, low crime ZIP code.

Greener grass and all that...

I've just had to buy a car of the same make and model to get the Mrs back on the road, as changing even to something of the same group would earn me a bumming. Bumming you for swapping to a car of the same make and model is really taking the piss!

Wouldn't another policy be cheaper, even if you kept the mk4 taxed for the two months?

Ive got an admiral multicar policy too for me and swmbo, when I bought the zx I added that on, which upped the dd from £120 to £160. When I sold the xm a d took it off it dropped to £110.

I thought it was fair anyway

Threaten to cancel the insurance. Then Cancel it.

I paid half my son's £1400 a year insurance on a 1.6 16V Mk4 astra, with me, and the wife as named drivers.

3 months later he moves to North London, to take up an industrial training year/internship/year in industry in a Medical Research Organisation whilst also being a final year MCHEM student at York University.

His insurance company wants an extra £750 for the remaining 9 months.

In the end he cancelled and went with a student friendly company for £682 for 12 months. I got money back.

I love the random number generator they use:

Start of this year insurance with Alfa ~£19 a month

change to Megane ~£23 (rise due to admin fee)

change to Stilo ~£21 (lower insurance group absorbed admin fee)

change back to Alfa £42 (coz it's a powerful car innit and another admin fee)

This was through robbing ba$tards Hastings Direct. They couldn't give me an answer as to why my policy was more than twice what is was at the start of the year.
