That's amazing. If the engine really is using that much black gold, a diesel swap would make a lot of sense. Then you would HAVEVto enter in in the Concourse de'Elefont @the MGOC National.

Verdict:winner.

Awesome purchasing powers. That really is that late 80s look for MGBs.

Tatty Harvest Gold truly is for winners.

A QUALITY GOAL BY A QUALITY PLAYER!!!

Rare fact, those unfinished looking bumper cut-outs under the rear lamps are for standing a tube of autosol when polishing the tailpipe, it'll dribble if laid down and is tricky to clean off black rubber.

Nice to see some appreciation for the MG here, does the site need larger cataract friendly text now? Or how about a sticky for dogging spots.

Didn't that chap from PC - Theodore Whatshisname do this to his BGT?

I remember that. He had a green mg with a 1.8d fitted. I think I'd prefer Sam Glover's straight six triumph engined example

There's a couple of there with mx5 conversions and I've seen one with a YB Cozzie in it. I think plonking an MGB body  on an mx5 chassis and running gear would be a nice project.

Just a thought about the oil... Does it have the correct breathers?

On a B the tappet chest cover has a singular pipe then a rubber elbow, then a black plastic "Capital Y" joiner before it gets recirculated back through the inlet tracts.

It should be wearing HIF carbs though some get carbs changed and the breathers dumped/capped off which could account for it coming out of the oil filler cap

If its breathing correctly, with the engine idling at about 950RPM, if you unscrew the oil filler cap the engine will almost stop as the carbs lose their pressure from the breathers as its gone out the cap

Ooooh a Triumph straight six-powered MGB sounds good, like an MGC from Lidl

+72.5

The B Series is fussy about breathers - if it's rong or blocked it will use loads of oil.

The colour is BLMC 'Sandglow 4 Winners'. It looks a bit too crap as is. A rub fown with 600 grit wet'n'dry and £25 worth of Halfords custom mixed arseol cans will see it looking a lot more presentable but not too bufty.

To think that BL really were pitching these things against the Celica and Capri!

Well, this is now officially a clunge magnet.  Coming out of the pub after my work Christmas do last night, the girl who sits at the desk opposite mine ditched her pre-arranged lift for a ride home in the MG.  She loved it, too.

A mate suggested it would be better than an MGC as he claimed the Triumph motor is alot lighter than the old 'C'-series lump BMC fitted to the MGC. Don't know how close to true this is but the weight of the engine over the front end was one of the big issues it had (handling/steering-wise).
