Cheap learner shite wanted

Recommended Posts

After my offspring turning her nose up at a perfectly good Hyundai I'm on the lookout for some teenage girl friendly learner shite, max budget £300, ideally within 75 miles of Kendal as I can't be arsed to travel much further, astra, focus, fiesta, micra sort of thing, manuel and no bigger than a 1.6,  don't mind getting my hands dirty fixing things but it must run, stop, steer and heat up inside and have some mot...

Over to you lot :)

Helloooooooo, only me......You were right its a 1.3 £200 drive away Autoshite price?

Can you make it look like a Bini for that price?

I will have another word tonight, I'm picking her up from Manchester tomorrow, it might be wise to collect the car without her being there and apply some magic polish before she see's it!

Is she of the generation that wants a 'posh car' for free or provided? We have some friends with a daughter like that...... A Porsche or an Audi pleeze.

My Austin princess will be for sale soon for around this price. That'll make her wish that she had stuck with the Hyundai.

no she's normally ok with things, she would like a Bini or Fiat 500, but she understands that it will have to be bought and paid for by herself, I'll put her on the first rung of the ladder, she has to do the rest.

I showed her the Hyundai again last night and its a definite no, its just too shite for her, but glwts :)

Going to look at a omghgf Rover 25 this morning.....

I'd tell that spoilt brat that it's either that Hyundai, or walk, if she was mine.

I'd also tell her I can always tie her to the rear bumper of the RoD and drag her through town,

should she ever try to give me this consumerism label bullshit again.

Would she like a 206 1.4hdi?

Let me know if she does, and I'll buy one off Billy and sell it to you. £1200.

I know of a Seicento in South Shields that would fit your bill.

Maybe she just doesn't like it! She can't be too consumerist as the choices are all sub £300, so hardly going to get a Range Rover evoque or BMW 1 series to impress the Made in Chelsea set anyway. If there is another car in budget that the intended driver will prefer why not get that.

She didn't, just like she didn't like the nice rover 25 (yes really) I went to see today, there was nothing wrong with it, 10 months mot, new tyres, no issues at all, £300, she can fucking walk as I can no longer be arsed.

Its a lesson they must learn the hard way unfortunately.

Can't believe any kid turning down a basically free car just 'cos it's not perceived as cool or something. I think most of us at that age would have been grateful!

So your daughter didnt like a rover 25 with nothing wrong?

Some poeple dont know there born.

Im a Rover fan anyway but for the Money i think the little 25s are hard to beat. Reliable little cars aswell.

Saying that the Suzuki youve bought does have a certain charm and its in a lovely colour

I would have left the bonnet as it was as I thought it added character

Well shite collection went well, no petrol station shot as it came with 1/3 tank which was more than enough for the 30 mile trip back to Kendal.

First thoughts are it handles like a boat, the headlamps are brilliant and its a bit noisy at 90mph, oh and the heater doesn't work, I've not been able to investigate further as daughter doesn't know about it so I've hidden it round the corner, the bottom hose is cold so there's something amiss.

Its a tidy little shed though, further updates will follow when I get chance to fettle it.

Ok after further investigations my heater still doesn't, I have flushed and refilled and bled the system, had the water pump off (its metal and in vgc) and flushed the heater matrix out, car gets up to temp normally and stays there, but the bottom hose is still cold, its got to be the stat right?

typically its an absolute twat to get to being hidden under the throttle body and I couldn't be arsed tonight.

Also had first comedy moment, went to open the tailgate and the whole handle assembly came off and I smacked myself in the face with it, oh how I laughed  :?

If its the bottom hose from the radiator, then it is likely 1 of 2 things.

A cold top hose indicates that stat is stuck shut and no coolant is getting to rad

If top hose is warm and bottom is stone cold its likely a blocked radiator

Posted

Does the heat control work, that it opens/closes the coolant inlet to the heater matrix??

I flushed the rad through and it seemed to run freely although it could well be it.

Not checked that to be honest, I forgot! will check that next :)

Perfect choice for insurance bill, my mate got one for his girl and was good to insure, Rova would be a bit rich, I'm sure this is a group 1, hope your daughter is pleased
