Soz about the crap collection thread for not my car, but it's my dad's so it's close enough.

It started with no trains, just two grown men driving snugly from derby to high Wycombe in a mr2.

It was a nice easy run. Luckily I have thurs and fri of work so it was nice to be off looking at some carz.

Since I sold my stag to my dad and then he sold it on, we made a nice little earner and while mine had been dissolved into our joint account, my dad had his burning a hole in his pocket.

We had been to have a look at a few bits and bobs but nothing to take his fancy.

Till this popped up cheap.

Got to this nice house to see a old couple owned it and it was actually his misses who just popped the shops, collected Viagra in it etc etc

Obviously it has started to rust in a few places. But nothing major.

Comes with lovely two tone, also some mad air operated lumbar support system. Like a Granada but with more options and no pumping involved.

Is rocking 161k but had a bill for 4 grand in 2011 for head gaskets, timing chains, oil pump the invoice is 5 pages long from merc

Also another bill from merc for a gearbox as there shit in these.

This is the view on most of the way home, the little mr2 singing its heart out trying to keep up.

I had a blast round when j got back, it was flashing up the tc light when you kick down at 60 odd. It's pretty addictive. I am glad my old man got it, as I haven't got the balls to drive one daily, also I haven't the coin for when it breaks.

Gonna try and service it tomo while it's at mine and will take some good pics.

Top fucking bombing!

Lovely. If it were an estate I'd have been over that like a tramp on chips:)

Hope your dad enjoys it

Tsk Tsk frittering away your inheritance, etc. I wholly approve.

Ha, they seemed the type to succomb to zimbabwe/nigerian scammers that would ask to borrow it and promise* to bring it back.

It did some big miles in the early days by the look of it, and chilled out in its later life.

That's a really lovely thing. An M3 is better, of course, but the C43 is hugely more cool and hilarious.

Excellent work. Your Dad sounds like the right kind of Dad to have.

Sweet as, I like the "special" version of these Mercs, I actually have a 1:18 scale model of the C-class AMG.

Ace. I like this era of fast Merc, because driving them feels like going skydiving with your gran.

Do you often take pics whilst at the wheel in the fast lane of a motorway?

Well anyhow this week I gave it a bit of a clean for my old man and gave it a once over. It's like cort16 v8 as it needs 16 plugs for a a change and takes 7.5l of 0-40 so it's getting serviced after xmas. It's also done 160k.

It's actually the engine they fit in the e430 just with a Amg fettle to release a few more bhp.

These were actually 45-50 grand new so came with a bit of kit. Like a weird air operated lumbar support system. Heated seats, Bose sound etc but they were a fair few grand more than a e36 m3 which is a quicker and probably a better handling car.

But these have a nice cruiser feel about them but when you floor it it doesn't half shift. Plus from some views it looks like a c180 which is nice as it's pretty discreet.

Also this weekend was the first time I could give my recently acquired st170 a proper clean and once over.

This was £1300 and was bought as I just didn't get on with my mr2, I felt a bit graham norton in it, it also caught me out a few times when pushing on and I only just caught it. Plus it had a bit of a oil drinking habit.

This came with no history apart from the handbook and a receipt for a Cambelt kit in April not fitting though. It had 12 months mot And drove spot on so should do me well over winter, a heated front screen is bliss.

These have a stupid dmf which gives up and is expensive to replace the seller assured me it had a solid flywheel fitted and a updated clutch, he also said it had a bluefin remap to improve mpg and that the exhaust cam timing has been altered to to achieve a few more bhp. It seems lively enough.

Is pretty juicy though on my first tank it managed 27mpg and that included a long slow 150 round trip so it will probably be a bit worse on my small commute.

These are also something like 300 quid a year to tax. It's my first ever car I have owned with the new style number plates I.e 51/52 plate etc etc.

I reckon it handles ace, 4 pretty much brand new kumhos help, it's also got very recent discs and pads all round, the oil is fresh and the air filter is not old at all so I reckon it's been looked after.

Will see how it fairs over the winter.
