Korean Bike Shite - The Hyosung Agila GV650

I spend an odd hour or so per week populating an imaginary barn/shed that I own with various machines....

One that's popped up on the radar recently (year or so) is the completely ridiculous looking GV650, which, I'm led to believe uses a similar engine to the Suzuki SV650 (made under license or some such bollocks?)

There seems to be a few issues with leaky petrol tanks, solenoids burn out etc.

But I think I need one, at some point, once the pricing levels get down to a sub 1K price.

Anybody here ever swung a leg over one or ridden one?

I've ridden one as my dad was looking for a cruiser and I had the job of finding one, they are ok to ride, plenty of grunt, reasonable ground clearance (for a cruiser) and better than an 883 Harley, the magazines rated them when they were released but that could have just been plenty of generous backhanders to the journos.

From what I have read, it's almost the opposite way round - Hyosung make a fine living from manufacturing components, including large parts of the engines, for Suzuki.

They seem to be a mixed bag of reliability - I just saw one on Gumtree for £850 that had been well used with 33,000 miles on the clock up in the Edinburgh(ish) area.

The vast majority seem to be sub 10,000 miles and I was wondering if this is due to low reliability, causing lack of use, or owners that just bought them and kept the bikes in the shed?

I had a Hyusung GV250(?) might have been a 125 but it was a V twin cruiser type thing. I only bought it as it was cheap and I liked the look of it. I did a fair bit of fettling on the old thing as it had been sat outside for a couple of years and it was surprisingly good! I bolloxed a jet in one of the carbs trying to clean it out and that was the only spare part I had to buy for it.

It was covered in surface rust but all cleaned up okay and it really was a pleasant thing to ride.

They also a bike that was a more or less direct copy of the Suzi SV, looks wise at least but it had a steel frame rather than the SVs alloy job so was heavy and a bit slower etc. Think it was supposed to be okay and the mechanicals were up to it.

I actually quite fancy a Hyosung GT125 Comet at the moment.  Looks like a slighty more sensible, more reliable alternative to the Cagiva, which I find quite irritating to ride when I'm not in the mood to thrash the knackers off it (which seems to be more and more often these days - must be getting old).  Should sound nice for a 125 too with the V-twin.

That's probably the one in the link in post #6?

I'm probably getting past the thrashing the knackers off bikes stage, particularly when there are so many muppets on the roads nowadays.

Then again, I do have my old GSX-R750G in the shed for that purpose and the GT250X7 for blue smoke days too.

My last purchase was a Super Cub 110cc - that might show the direction I'm heading in now....
