We Were Invaded!

I took my trusty Visa to the Midland Citroen Rally on Sunday to meet like minded people who understand my Visa fetish, but we were invaded by a Hyundai Stellar I believe of this parish. I jest of coarse it was great to see it running with it’s V8 motor.

No offence at all to your very fine mark 2, but it's a joy to see a mark 1 Visa. I remember the first time I saw one, also yellow, in London in 1978 (or whenever they came to the UK) - that one piece plastic bumper/grille was from outer space. Sadly, what I can't remember is the last time I saw one in the wild.

Anyone who doubts exactly when it was that the world stopped making sense only has to look up when Citroen pulled  the Visa....

Good stuff, but whoever put that modern Citroen van in the line up needs to have a strong word with themselves.

This Mk I is a 652cc 35 bhp powerhouse! 3 Years ago it was invited to display on the Dutch Visa Club stand at a show in Holland.

I must apologise for seeming a little blank when you first came up to me and asked about the Stellar. You know how it is when you're trying to remember in what context you saw someone's face? In my defence I blame a (rather energetic) late night followed by an early awakening with the tent flapping in the wind.

I didn't get a photo of it, but spotted what must have been a very early AX there on a D plate. I really must scratch that itch at some point as I enjoyed my very brief time in one (an 11TRS) as well as quite a few miles in a later 106.

I R DISAPOINT I thought this thread was about Welsh GT cars.

No problem not being recognised we only met for a short time and I was driving a Cadillac at that event, I have a problem myself I never forget a car but a face is is difficult, unless they happen to own a Steller V8!

I know what you mean about the AX I worked for a dealer when they were launched at the NEC Birmingham, I will never forget the scene of a sea of white AXs for us dealers to collect all with bottles in the door pockets. I guess that was May/June 1987, I did not stay with that dealer but returned to another Citroen dealer in the mid 1990s and sold AXs again. I think they are a good looking car but were flimsy, the 1.0 was under powered and cars without front antiroll bars weighted up horribly in roundabouts. I did manage to get a picture of the very smart one at the show.

Apparently the biggest problem with AXs was people pulling down on one corner of the tailgate to close it. That just made the glass explode and the tailgate fell to pieces. I heard that this happened to a few salesmen in showrooms...

Like a 2CV, they're incredibly flimsy but also surprisingly tough. My wife couldn't kill hers, and she did try... (regularly seemed to have no oil in it, often driven above 70mph when it was just the 1-litre).

Crumbs, how good does that AX look? I never thought I'd be hankering after a faceless shipping trolley, but that one is mega smart. It would also satisfy my need to only drive cars where you would definitely die in any sort of crash
