Sticking a mirror on

Having a bit of trouble here, tried using the sticky pads to stick rear view mirror on but no luck keeps falling off any ideas?

Local Ford dealer. Mirror sticky pad from spares.

Clean screen properly (brake cleaner et al). Clean mirror mounting same. Peel off non-green side and stick to mirror. Green side goes to glass. Hold on screen - heat from blower helps to 'cure'

Win.

Do not use glue, or cheap non-Ford ones. They're shite.

I find a couple of small wood screws with PVA glue liberally applied to the mirror beforehand always works for me. Obviously as it's going to be attached to glas so a small pilot hole needs to be drilled through the windscreen before or the screen will break (stupidly I forgot to drill a screen before once and BANG! Oh was I embarrassed!) after the mirror has been screwed in place and the glue dried, just take your angle grinder to the projecting screws on the outside of the windscreen and bobs your uncle! No more mirror dropping off.

What size drill bit, and do you centre punch it first, so the drill can't slip?

I find a 3/16 masonry is the best type drill (but don't use the hammer action on your drill - that would be just stupid!) no need to centre punch it, just guide the drill with your fingers for the first bit and you'll be fine.

Another +1 for the Ford sticky pads.  Nothing else works.

Beware of the mullets who tell you to use superglue. When superglue gets hot it contracts, easily enough to crack a windscreen.

I used the 2 part adhesive and gauze kit you get from motor factors, masking taped the Base to the window 24 hrs later when the adhesive had cured it was solid as a rock

My dad wood-screwed a mirror to the metal just above the windscreen.

It looked great, apart it being about six inches too high.

And the two wood-screws protruding out of the roof.

Wouldn't recommend the drilling through windscreen?
