Best paint resto option

Ok...

Detailing question here.

The old Ovlov could do with a damp good polish. In going over the body carefully yesterday I noticed tell tale signs of red paint starting to ghost. On the nearside wing it's now quite dull. All over the car are impurities etc.

My thoughts were to:

- give it a good wash

- dry it and clay bar it

This should enable me to see how bad things are.

Then the paint needs cutting especially on the wing tops bonnet, roof and boot.

I'm no fan of t - cut I find it pretty brutal especially on red paint for Dome reason.

Can anyone suggest a good cutting ointment and then subsequent polish/wax to apply.

I've looked at both Auto Glyn and Meguires but not sure which way to go.

Btw I don't want to spend a fortune on wax hand scraped from the ears of lice living on the scrotums of rare Amazonian fruit bats.

I have always been a fan of Autoglym. It is easy to use, no hard buffing required and it smells nice.....all for reasonable money.

I find the super resin polish usually brings up my red Gaylander a treat, but have an old bottle of their paint renovator (t-cut equivalent) for the odd car whose paint is a little too far gone.

I have never seen the point of these fancy products made from unicorn jizz....ok I have never actually used one but the price alone screams "emperors new clothes" to me when there is perfectly decent usable alternatives available from Halfords.

Farecla G10, or G3 if it's really bad. It's what the trade use.

Rub it down, then paint with Red Lead Oxide.

Is it worth giving Colour Magic wax a shot?

Or in between with G6 depending on how bad it is, then polish up with farcela wax top, that will give a finish you'll want to lick

Colour magic is OK but it seems just to be a pigmented polish - in other words its the same colour as your car and you therefore don't see any of the white residue behind badges etc.   However, it seems not to have any affect on restoring colour although it does work into scratches and swirl marks quite well.   Not bad but not going to help dull/faded paintwork.....
