New Unnecessary Toy Gotten -Now With Pie Content!

As I have 2 cars which behave themselves usually, one a workhorse, the other a toy and have little spare room or cash I thought it would be a good time to get another impractical car to offset the boredom. So, as you do, I bid blindly on a car knowing little about them and for added points it's not even anything I've wanted before. So naturally I won it, a Porsche 924, 1980 vintage.

Sorry, no petrol station shots while it is mot'd it hasn't been taxed since 2007 and has done 1 mile in 7 years so I shit out and trailered it 50 miles home.post-17633-0-50529400-1406391730_thumb.jpg

For any Landy pervs the seller rocked up in this, it seem to be their main business.

Good bits on the 924 so far are a shell with no obvious bodge or mig and an engine what seems ok despite no water, the main bad one are electrics where its quicker to list what works than doesn't. If anyone wants to know where all the blue insulation tape has gone I've got it!

Not shite but hard for us poor northern folk not to be impressed by this at trailer hire spot. I didn't want to post this pic but my crap IT skills won't let me delete it! Ah well...

That is nice, I bet it's super* practical once you've figured out where to put all the blue tape.

Well done, I quite like these and now I can live the dream vicariously through you, without actually having to shell out for fixing Porsche electrics.

Big girl's blouse!

(I'd have done the same, obv.)

For any Landy pervs the seller rocked up in this, dealing coke and running a string of hookers seems to be their main business.

EFA.

I want to put the tape in bin, it's what happens when I unwind it!

They look so canny.  Unmistakable from any angle.

Well bought dude, looks like an actually rare colour combo too?

It's relatively recently been painted but I have no idea of the shade,  though if I get keen I'll need to find out as the front bumper has had a thump and the white fibreglass is showing.

All I know is that the early ones were galvanised on the lower half while the later ones were galvanised all over. I have no idea when the change over happened, though!

Either way nice buy. Every few months or so I keep looking at these and really need to scratch that itch. Apparently the original 924 (ie not an 'S' or a Turbo) is fairly cheap and easy to work on in that many of the parts come from the VAG parts bin.

We overtook a Swiss registered Tesla yesterday heading north on the A1.

I bet you haven't had any Van engine jokes yet...

It looks a lovely car and I hope you don't have much trouble getting it up and running, I can never work out why the 924 is such a bargain yet an old ford Capri or an Opel Manta is worth about 2 sqillion quid.

I would say you have the Autoshite sports car of choice and it makes a change to not seeing one in guards red or white.

I've always craved a 924 but haven't yet been brave enough to buy a cheap one good luck and keep us all posted as I love these resurrection threads.

I guess it has a van engine in the same way an RS2000 does. It's an old Audi 100 engine actually, like the one that grenaded itself on me many years back out of spite.

This was Dec 1980 registered and must be galvanised, the boot floor, battery tray, sills all look original tin at 34 years old.

It sparked up with battery straight away, its had a check underneath and oil change so I'll clean the new discs up that have rusted with doing nowt and hopefully tax it for Friday. Most stuff it needs are minor, -fan, drivers window etc.

Tradition dictates first run for new toys is Ruswarp for pork and Stilton pies, about 20 miles down the coast! :-D

I think there's a few Swiss demo cars around. I was in Bristol Cribbs Causeway and there was a Swiss one in the carpark, a guy who appeared to be in charge, and a few businessmen taking it in turns to go for a drive.

Nice Porks. I like. That's one car that always looks better with less on.... No massive wheels or bodykits. Just original design.

What he said.  I still miss mine, it's a really pleasant thing to punt down A roads but still comfortable on motorways too.

Mine needed a shitload of work to get it ready, which didn't really tie in with me using it every day for a 75 mile commute.

...whereas mine has been pretty reliable, mostly needing fairly minor trim/seals and electrical stuff tinkered with, making it the perfect car for me because i is shite wiv spannarz.

They're fairly practical for a ridiculous car, and yours from 1980 should be galvanised top to bottom keeping most rust at bay.

On mine the wiring is in fairly poor nick and despite a poorly finished off (door shuts etc)  respray the body is good for its years. The last 2 litre coupe from 1980 I owned I had to weld the floor up on in 1986. It was a lovely Manta, but on a quiet night you could hear the bastard rot. The 924 has a whirry waterpump but I'll reserve judgement on the rest of the mechanics until I drive it on Friday.

What's their business, Drug dealing?

They were called Bespoke Cars of Harrogate, or something like that. They had about 8 Land Rovers, a Porsche 911 RS copy, a Porsche 4x4 and Adele's heavily modded Beetle conv running 500bhp Audi gear if I heard correctly. Nice rural premises. £54k for a modified 2007 LR? The 924 and the MG in the back of the pic were the salesman beer money I think.

Aye, there's a bit o' brass in that part of the world.

Landy pervs...proper landy pervs wouldn't be seen dead in a heap of tarts knickers like that...covered in plastic EMBELLISHMENTS ....Obviously a pimp or a sad suburban cunt who thinks he lives life on the edge when actually he's just having the same mid life crisis everyone else has

Woah, calm down dear and take a tablet!

As we all drive vehicles that others not in the know would call 'rusty bags of shit that need to be bridged' we are hardly in a position to make sweeping judgements on this chaps taste in motor cars ( although I do agree with you!).

It's only a style thing, boys toys if you like, though they're not something that interests me either way. They also had a 1973 911 which will be a crap everyday car but I'd love it even though I'm quite aware I don't have the skill or bravery it use it fully. :-)

The old blue donkey made the 40 mile return pie trip down the coast, predictably with a few more items on the to do list. It has a double hot start problem, both cranking and firing are poor, this explains the masses of blue tape on starter wiring. The passenger side front brake is slow to release despite me taking the pads out and freeing it all off and the passenger window stopped working. The last item may not seem that important but when neither

the fan or drivers window work it wasn't a nice trip back,- I was concerned for the pies safety!

All in probably not too bad for the 1st run in a 34 year old car unused since 2006.

Proof shot, pork and Stilton pie with ET at Saltburn. :-D
