Ugly Cars Or Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder...

I suppose this just confirms the eye of the beholder thing, but I followed a 2008 Focus saloon yesterday and thought it looked good.attachicon.gifimage.jpg

That looks alright, I was thinking mk2 mundane ho and there's a 2000 focus with a boot that drives passed me twice a day,it just makes me want to vomit

These, I've often thought, manage to be both exceedingly ugly but also bland and boring, mostly thanks to a combination of insipid colours and the fact there's millions of the things scuttling around.  It looks like it'd go and hide under the fridge if you turned the light on.  Having had one as a hire car in Ireland I can also say with authority that they are an incredibly dull driving experience too.

I really like the Mk1 Focus saloon. If my Escort hadn't cured me of Fords for life I would consider having one. I would put the Focus, and the Mk2 Astra mentioned earlier, into the category of cars that look wrong as hatchbacks.

I can't believe I'm defending the Bugeye Scorp, but Ford did make the later ones a little more palletable to Western eyes( judging by the shit the Koreans and Chinese made around this time, they loved it as it was)

Admittedly they were slightly better, just as some parts of the Titanic are slightly less underwater than others

^^^ yet awesome?!?!?!

Ami.

Yes, I would like an early Ami. It does, in a way, offend the eye but there is such a lot there to interest. It is not beautiful, but it is attractive in a certain way.

To misquote an F1 legend ,it's a Mon Ami, Mate.

Sorn Me ,types a lot faster than me!

I look at the Nissan Juke and want to vomit, its just plain ugly... ;)

I mean WTF is a crossover?

It's when a vehicle leaves one side of the road and collides with oncoming traffic. I think looking at the result of one inspired the Juke stylist.

Square ugly (Mk 4 Zodiac) is better than fat round blobby ugly (lookin' at yo, Scorpio).   I don't understand the idiom in which anything since 1980 has been designed so cannot comment on those.

from the front 3/4 angle like that, it looks like a nice square cut yank tank design. when viewed from the rear, the comically short boot and minimal rear overhang spoil the whole look of the car. a rear end more like the PC cresta would have made a far more attractive design to my eye

Yeah I don't know what they were thinking........It all went wrong with putting the spare up under the bonnet.   Could have at least put a V8 under there!

I always liked the aircraft carrier zephyr/zodiac. I actually prefer it to the previous model! But I think the Citroen DS is ugly so what do I know!

GMC Suburbans often have this weird truck-stacked-on-truck styling.  Never entirely sure if I like it.

Personally I liked how the Scorpios looked. Then again I fancy Duffy, and I'm told this is weird also?

Daewoo Tacuma, Fiat 500L (not just how it looks but the very idea of basing a car thats supposed to be spacious and carry people but is based on a car thats designed to be a tiny city car, smart thinking Fiat) Ford Ka, VW Beetle (both new and old) Seat Toledos (previous gen which looked like an ugly MPV rather than a hatch/saloon which they were originally and have gone back to recently)

I actually hate the styling of most modern cars, I hate MPVs, crossovers and kid-on 4x4s, should go back to how it was up until the mid 90s, coupes, cabrios, proper 4x4s, hatches, saloons and estates, none of these mini MPVs, coupe convertibles like Megane, 307 and Astra, crossovers, and all this other bullshit, if you want a 4x4 style vehicle buy a 4x4 not a fucking Qashqai or Vauxhall Mokka, or the Ford "Ecosport" which looks like a poor rip off of an already rubbish car (Daihatsu Terios) and if you need a big MPV buy a proper one like an Espace or a Voyager

Older Cits uaually divide people, the DS can look odd to Anglosphere eyes from certain angles or under some lighting, even to those who see huge beauty in them.

How the English eye saw these in the mid-fifties, when tracks were narrow and overhangs huge one can only imagine. The most modern car, ever (and ever will be) - I think that was Setright's comment.

I read somewhere that one of the reasons for the Edsel's failure was because the front end looked like a vagina instead of a thrusting phallus.

I know I bring it up quite often, but my ultimate achievable dream car is [huge understatement mode ON] probably not aesthetically pleasing to everyone [huge understatement mode OFF].

To me though, the ÑÂþфøѠь (Sofia B ) is absolutely astro-hyper-mega-HOT.

She could massage my testes with broken glass and rusty razor blades, then tend the subsequent wounds with vinegar, saltwater and bitey ants and I still wouldn't be able to resist her sultry charms.

The reasons for the Edsel's failure are two-fold, but styling wasn't one of them.

- Although heralded with great fanfare, it was 'just another car' without any real USPs.

- Triggered by the "Eisenhower Recession" of 1958, the entire mid-price market segment the Edsel was launched into basically collapsed. This not only denied the Edsel a chance, but claimed another mid-prize make - De Soto - and forced others - Buick and Oldsmobile, for example - to rapidly re-adjust their portfolio.

I saw one of these in marroon parked up outside the local co-op today. slightly tatty (chrome trim missing etc) but it made my day.
