Classic insurers that allow you to drive other cars?

I've been forced into fucking myself over, insurance wise.

I started as a taxi driver last month and I am currently hiring a lovely* Vectra, but have just had my own car plated for use.

So, current situation is this;

Mondeo private policy is cancelled as of 7/7/14 and I have had to forefeit my ninth years NCB, with three months to go, due to needing to transfer the NCB to the taxi policy.

Mondeo is insured as taxi, from 7/7/14.

Escort is on a classic policy through Lancaster (as it is/was my second car) and this is due for renewal on 15/7/14.

Last year it was £97 and this was ideal.

Now for the problem...

I do not have third party cover to drive other cars with the taxi policy and I also don't have it on the Escort policy and I could really do with it.

I got a renewal quote for the Escort and it will be over £300 with the entitlement.

Obviously this is shit.

Can anyone (perhaps in a similar situation) offer any helpful advice?

I can't remember if Lancaster mirror NCB, or if they don't care.

If I can find a company that will mirror it, maybe I have half a chance of bringing the price down.

Their new quote is almost what I was paying on the Mondeo, elsewhere ffs.

Obviously I will try for other quotes, in the mean time.

CheeRS, shiters!

I know for sure that Peter James give you third party entitlement, if you opt for their unlimited mileage classic policy.

Talk to be Peter Best, they seemed very flexible when they spoke to me.

Thanks, fellas. That's just the kinda info that I need. :-)

The 604 is with Chaucer and my understanding always was that I could driver other peoples cars.  I just looked at the certificate and it isn't clear though. For me it's not an issue because I have it on my everyday car.  Might be worth asking Chaucer.  They are cheap as well.

Lancaster.

I had the Granny insured with them, told them I had 9+ years NCB and they werent at all worried about me sending in my NCB as proof.

Really? I've got unlimited miles on a Peter James policy and I don't get third party entitlement.

Why do you need it overrun? Are you driving another car fairly frequently? If so, just get added as a named driver.

Thanks again, for the suggestions.

@SD1, I am already with Lancaster. I do agree that they are good.

@dolly, I do drive my dads cars quite often, but also mates stuff, buy and sell the odd car etc so it would be a lot easier for me to have it.

I've got third party on other cars with Peter James. I did with Lancaster as well, when I had my Pop insured with them. Neither of those policies have no-claims bonii, I don't think I've had a no-claims style policy for over 10 years now.

Perhaps PJ have selected a different insurer for your policy ? My information is straight from the horse's mouth, as I was on the phone to them this morning regarding my renewal !

My w124 is on a classic policy with Adrian Flux. It was slightly more expensive than Lancaster etc but I am covered 3rd party on other vehicles

RH do it if you're over 25 as my dad has the entitlement on his policy, but I don't have it on mine at 23. I did mean to ask them if there was any chance I could pay an increased premium to have the DOC entitlement early, but I suspect the answer would have been no anyway.

Drive other cars will cover your dads and your mates as they will already be insured. It won't cover buying and selling cars though as once you buy it then its yours.

I was with Adrian Flux for years, now whenever I get a quote off them I end up in fits of laughter. Ive given up with them now.

I'm glad this thread came up, as I checked with Peter James and I AM covered for other vehicles. Brilliant.
