Am I going too far

Having a 1999 motor I have found myself looking on eBay for typical late 90's accessories

Like old Nokia phones or Walkmans etc. just to keep in the glove box..

I have also thought about doing the same with my 1995 car

Work keep telling me to see a occupational counciler.. Should I take them up on their offer?

Absolutely.

Something must have seriously gone wrong during your anal phase.

Otherwise you would buy a brand new Mini Countryman on a finance plan, have a mortgage the size of Canada, live in one of those new developments in a neo-Georgian semi,

festooned with the latest shiny shit from China, courtesy of your maxed out credit card, and a CCTV surveillance system bought on overdraft, to safeguard your* belongings.

You, Sir, need to see a doctor.

I just buy old shit, end of. I'm not accessorising a car.

Useless old Mobile? Don't mind if I do! (I have a Microsoft Kin, a phone that was SO shit, it was only on sale for 49 days)

Citizen Colour Printer with a RIBBON in it that looks like a rainbow, and actually works quite well.

Somewhere, I have an old MP3 player that I bought last year, just because it has a 2.5" hard disk in it.

Carry on, af1!

Unlike new shite, old shite had a miraculous tendancy to work......................

"Microsoft invested two years and about US$1 billion developing the Kin platform"

"Within two months, Verizon stopped selling the phones because of poor sales"

According to wiki.

That phone is ace and I have never heard about it, obvs I need one now, till not long ago I used to rock a Motorola star tac, the battery lasted between 1.2 and 1.4 mins. It was ace.

This is most abnormal... You need to immediately get rid of car and related paraphernalia !

You then need to purchase a 1970s car and related paraphernalia, for MAX SHITE POINTS !

My mrs is very much about the latest newest and greatest and tbh I tried to keep up for a few years.. I ended up skint! Then I remembered my roots and that I grew up pretty happy, despite not having the latest anything

I can drive around in 'old' cars, but cannot use old tech! The screen fucked up on my htc one again and I'm using a horrible old android phone which is horrible to use and I can't stand it. I couldnt live with an old b&w phone for more than 5 minutes as I would miss the net, email, porn etc. The screen on this phone isnt as sensitive as the htc, so typing etc is horrible, and its fucking tiny.

I'm trying to live with the 2002ish pioneer in the zx, the old nokia handsfree and the cd changer. It all works, but I want to fit my headunit with built in bluetooth that will stream music, so I can get my podcasts back, and an SD card slot so I dont have to have a cd skip everytime I go round a corner too fast and something slides into the changer. So sadly, whilst I'll live with it for now whilst I get more important stuff sorted it will stay, but I'll remove it all eventually and go back to modern! There's nothign wrong with cd's, but I'm jsut not used to them anymore!

Can't say the same about my laptop, it's old and clunky but works well due to a cheap SSD and maxing out the ram, so until windows 7 goes out of support it can stay, my tv is from 2008 and only 720p (OMG), we dont have a hi-fi etc blah blah

Nah, man, I'm guilty as charged, too. I accumulated 2,000 plastic model kits down in my dungeon, a mountain I will never be able to descend from.

Lately, I began to hate me for it.

There are good products and less good as well as the downright awful. By definition, most of the awful ones will be on shelves, for sale, and most of the very best will be old. Well worth remembering. This makes those with a hoard of crap old things something of an unusual creature...

At least plastic model kits hold their value better than new cars and HD Liquid Meth Hi-Fi blah blah blah TVs if you decided you wanted to claw that money back and sell them.

It probably does, assuming you don't actually use it.

You can't possibly sell plastic model kits nowadays. The entire hobby hasn't really made it into the current millennium.

I was doing server installs for HP in the mid and late noughties. I carried a pair of these with me while on the job, and made a fuckton of money selling these, and airtime contracts for the phones to bling-obsessed VAGTDIWANKER middle management types. Couldn't hold out to them, to the extent that I was at Belfast City Airport one morning at 6 a.m. waiting for a load more to arrive. I ended up selling my own two to a guy who just couldn't wait.

So a while ago I bought another couple from eGay, for old time's sake. The handheld PC isn't really any use, but the phone is still pretty decent. It even has a really primitive satnav on it. And nobody knows what the hell it is!

I have my old Now 1 to 10 tapes that I use with the Dolomite cassette player. Leave them in the car on the dash.

I use a tape Walkman day to day. Tape format is best format.

Posted

The first few Now albums were ace! I listen to them in the car a lot too - another cracker is 1987's Now Smash Hits Of the 80s.

Posted

Tape is awful! I'm all for a bit of nostalgia but tape? Unreliable and sounds shocking.

Minidisc ftw.

I like slightly older tat- especially as you can get tat that was top of the range in the day today for cheap. Especially if it's broken. The marvels of the Internet have brought to the fingertips of all the myriad service manuals for said tat; means the tat can be repaired and enjoyed for many years to come.

So yeah. I have some new stuff, intermingled with some older stuff that works/sounds/looks much better than I could get something new for at the same price.

Therefore, my living room is a little bit eclectic- 50" HD plasma tv sat next to a 14" monochrome computer terminal that is used to control music playlists through the 1974 Pioneer stereo sat on the side of it. All rebuilt, all working like it did the day it came out of the box.
