a real person would use duct tape and be done with it....

It arrived with gaffer tape. This was a bodge upgrade.

The duct tape was mk1. This was mk2 solution.

Well a fantastic turn out and quite a bit was achieved, I think. Firstly the sunroof repair was set upon by sloth in a bowl with great aplomb to make it sit flat so sealant could be applied to make it weather tight. While this was underway, Dollywobbler removed the stereo from the BX so he could have tunes again. I didn't worry as I brought along another to fill the gap.

Meanwhile, CITW reminded us of his desire to not get a hernia by refitting the Discovery's gearbox. After a competition of how many autoshiters can be fitted beneath a Land Rover and with a liberal application of innuendo, the box fairly flew in and was secured for CITW to finish off at his leisure.

During the prcedings much hilarity ensued with the "who can ride FPB7s bike" competition where CITW showed much skill in not falling off. He was deemed the winner and was given e prize of custodian of the bike for him to play with for a while.

After fitting a suitable hole filler into the BXs radio slot, the AVO of win was waived at it until it gave in an worked (with the application of a fresh fuse). The rather splendid afternoon was spent with a short bicycle ride to the local hostelry for a refreshing drink and for me to show my prowess at not being able to play pool.

Many thanks to CITW and Mrs CITW for the endless supply of tea and truly scrumptious bacon sarnies and all who turned up and lend a hand/take e piss!

Next months session is provisionally at Chaseracers abode near Cannock to assist in the resurrection of the Diane of much win! All welcome to bring things to be fixed/help fix things/drink tea.

Ace day,  thanks for coming chaps :D

The gearbox went in far more smoothly with 6 of us than I could have hoped to manage on my own.

The monster was a fantastic distraction,  FPB7 made it out of 3 scrap bikes and has lent me it for a bit to get some use.  It's terrifying but addictive.

Clip in pedals as well? Someone is brave!

Saves your feet slipping from the pedals. At speed if that happens, your feet are sucked underneath you resulting in breakage! Unbelievably it much safer with them!

I didn't go near it. It looked bloody lethal to me. A bicycle designed by committee perhaps.

Nowt to do with Miidlands Tinkering but I have a recumbent trike, at least it should be harder to fall off!

Looks like you had a great time fellas. Wish I could've been there too with an 827 that needs attention :(

The currently unanswered question is whether the rather dodgy seal that HK and I put on his car survived the journey home.

There is much more for him to do before that fix is finished, but we learnt about the mechanism and got a start on things.

Overall it looks like a hell of a bargain VR6 he has got there, I'm just a bit jealous.

Some pictures from me

Two cars weren't shite enough to need attention today

While this one needed gearbox A joining up with engine B

The shitists method involves not having a second trolley jack but having 3 spare people instead

And add some high speed ratchet action

I also tried the bike but lacked Richards confidence (partially as the handle bars were rather loose when I tried it)

And just to show that duct tape was used for a bodge, even if it was just Dollywobbler's shoes

Last and not least a big thanks to Mrs Catsinthewelder for drinks and bacon sarnies.

The sunroof "repair" seems fine  :-D Much less wind noise at speed now which is nice. I may need to have a further fiddle with it at a later date but it's much better than it was so thanks to all that gave input into it.

Many thanks to Mrs Catsinthewelder for the refreshments  :-D

Looks like a gud lolz :-)

Reminds me of Area 52 'Play Days' but without the scene whores and asw photography.

I got the rest of the engine to bellhousing bolts in earlier and pumped the jack up a bit to do the gearbox mount.  Crapped myself as a big crash came from Julians adjustable spanner dropped off the crank nut,  will fetch it along to the next one :)

Posted

I was going to PM you about the spanner tonight. I realised on the way to work that I hadn't put it back in my toolbox.

It were jolly good fun.

Does the pub do Sheppey's in large takeaway format...?  ^_^

Oh yeah, I knew I forgot to do something! I see that my memory is down to its usual standards forgetting the adjustable as I was the one using it. Sorry Julian! Oh and sorry CITW too!
