That car is unstoppable. In the good way. Not the bad way.

Sorry about the wheel bearing dude. I certainly never spotted it.

Might not be, theres a rumble at the back end I can't place. Clutch is nowhere near as bad as anticipated so we'll see how it goes...

How, exactly?  I am confused by that advertisement.

A glittering prize, if there ever was one :)

Good luck with the clutch...

I've only just got in having left Andy CMS with his new chariot and less impressed better half. It is very definitely SVM approved and quite probably the best £15 ever spent.

No idea as it wasn't particularly dry. Dave 2000 can confirm how dry it wasn't.

Looks good! Did you see the thunderball was 13 again tonight?

What?! SVM in 'not in a Volvo' shocker! I guess the 960s thirst finally proves to much eh?

Good luck with the return journey!

After driving 2000 miles in the 740 last week, the prospect of running the dizzler (on diesel i reclaimed from my bus i may add so it was practically free) was just too tempting.

So... It's not died yet. Wheelbearing NOT fucked (warped disc it appears), wheel wobble sorted (NSF wheel buckled on the inside so swapped for spare) and car hoovered - might need to burn the parcel shelf as it looks like it's been used to sand down a jack russell.

Gr8 work fella. Looks like 1000 times better.

Get some linseed oil on those bumper greys.

I've only just spotted this thread & chuckled my way all the way through it.

Any chance of a picture of the offending parcel shelf...

..or the Jack Russell.

Well collected Andy.

All is not well with the Volvo of doom.

Sitting at MaccyD's last night waiting for my order when blue smoke occurred. Wispy at first then thicker. No grumpy running, just smoke at the moment but it smells a bit hot and it's running slightly warmer than I'd hope.

I've identified this as a an LID issue, so I'll fuck a bottle of injector cleaner into it and continue it's regime of me hanging on for dear life whilst trying to crash into the horizon.

Is that as in smoke in the engine bay, our out of the exhaust? Not so good either way!

Posted

Running warmer than previous?

Running cold on pickup?

Smelling hot?

Could it be the thermostat?

It seems to be becoming a SVM thing.

Out the exhaust. Doesn't seem to affect running, it's just unpleasant to look at.

Could be. It only sits just over the half way but I'm used to Volvos sitting just under. It's all this front wheel drive witchcraft malarkey.

I asked because mine's been doing a bit of both lately, and head gasket and valve stem seals were declared necessary, before a catastrophe happened.

Mind you, I haven't got a turbo to think of: could it be that? Pa had the Legacy's turbo overhauled after it smoked after a good thrash. It's something he checks for on Ma's TDCi Focus too, usually by thrashing it for a bit...

It's the car that just keeps on giving!

The handbrake only works when the car is facing downhill. Facing uphill, absolutely fuck all.

Handbrake on drum in centre of rear disc?

Brake shoe sticks into drum one way of rotation and slides over it the other, like a ratchet?

Strange, but possible

If you think the load cover looks bad, you should see the state of the wig it ate.

Sticky tape wrapped around hand and dab away, or just burn in disgust.

If you have twin leading shoe brakes (on something much older, probably a motorbike) they only really work when going forwards so could the rear facing shoe be inoperative leading to an effectively single leading shoe handbrake?

Hit it with a hammer and see if it gets better.

This is potentially back up for grabs - save me from the ebay mongs! Done over 1000 miles in it, nothing's gone wrong, nothing's been fixed, nothing's got any worse. I don't really want to re-raffle it as that's been done, so any offers fire them this way. I won't be offended, it stands me at about £150 including the tax. It's about three minutes from Glasgow Airport but can deliver at cost if that's your thing.

Stonkingly good value.

Shouldn't hang around for long.

It should be a bad car, but it really isnt.

I think its gr9 value at the asking price. Even better value since you pulled that silver aftermarkert cd player monstrosity out.
