Chap on extreme left of group - in felt hat and raincoat - is Alfred Neubauer (29 March 1891 – 22 August 1980) racing manager for Mercedes-Benz 1926 to 1955.

The picture is from the 1954 British Grand Prix. One of only 4 times the streamline bodied W196 was used. The W196 Streamliner won on three occasions that it was used and was the only enclosed wheel car to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Juan-Manuel Fangio was the driver at all three victories.

Those were the days. Cram 7 kids into the back of the car, no seat belts , no car seats.

It looks like there might be another 2 or 3 in the boot.

Exactly, dad's MK3 Zephyr was full when you physically couldn't get anyone else in through the doors🤣

I got 14 in a cortina estate once,

' is there a problem officer?'😁

I was once in a Mini (old clubman) with 6 other adults (coming home from the pub). We got stopped by the police and 3 of us had to walk.

Superb photo.

The big car looks like a war-surplus Humber - the other car is a Bond of 1956 or later.

Gawping pedestrians are perfection.

Yep, it's a Humber and very likely an ex-WD staff car. No doubt balloon sand tyres aren't great on wet greasy british tarmac. 😁
