After receiving some pretty devastating news on the health front [various internal organs seem to have HGF] The time has come to have a bit of a sort out.

I need something large . comfy, and automatic, which is as stress free to drive as possible. Preferably pre 1989 so I can import it out paying huge import tax.

To swop, I have the following

1963 Oldsmobile Cutlass F85 2 door manual [uK registered, MOT and taxed]

1983 Scimitar GTC [12000 miles] manual [Jersey registered]

More details, pics available.

I need to get rid of both of them, would like to trade either for something like a really nice CX, or similar, but must be auto.

Sorry to hear that. I'll have my invalid carriage Jag up for sale in the near future, its from 1994 though. An ideal way to get around though when you're not in the best of health.

Oh dear, not good news.  Good luck with it all!  Oh and another vote for Dome's Jag, or at least something similar.  Hard to beat a nice Jag if you're after a wafty barge.  (Though a RWD Volvo comes close)

Bump, 'cause I really, really fancy this Oldsmobile!

Hmmmmm.

Cutlass F85.

Scimitar.

And now you are looking for a classic to replace those two, that has an automatic.

So I put them in a mixer, add a Baderbox, press the button, and out comes a

Rover P6 V8.

That is indeed the Prussian Staff College solution and hard to fault.

How much actual cash would you be wanting for the Olds?

£6.5 k buys the Olds.................it's pretty much mint, yards of MOT, won't come with those wheels though..........have original steels / hubcaps/whitewalls. Runs the original Buick / Rover V8, get 22 mpg average.Equivalent Falcon in this condition would be at least £10k , and this is a far better drive.

Oh shit, I'm guessing the doctors news wasn't as we all hoped. I hope you've caught it in time.

Got news is.....not cancer...........bad news, pancreas seems to have had major HGF, resulting in me sitting on the loo for about 4 hours a day..........lost nearly a stone and a half in about a month, now on some fairly serious drugs, which seem to be the medical equivalent of K seal........which may or may not do the trick

I don't usually write things on the internet about sympathy and al that ( bloke after all) but I'm happy it isn't the big C. Still, I can't begin to understand what you're going through with all of this.

Right. A call to all the others on the site. I think as Colc is one of the longest standing members of this site I propose a group of us pop over for a cuppa and to show that this forum supports it's members through thick and thin. I've this feeling it won't be cheap but come on..

Thanks for all the messages of support..if anyone's interested in the Cutlass, will be bringing it over to the UK [health permitting] beginning of next week, with the intention of sticking it in Brightwells next auction.

6.5K looks a very fair price to me, but I must pass, alas.  v sorry to hear you are unwell, and hope all goes well with treatment and (much less importantly, of course) with car stuff.

Can't you just get the Scimitat made into an auto?

Possibly, but chopping about a 12000 miles from new car of '83 vintage does seem a bit of a no-no.......

Lots of autobox Scimitar GTEs for sale when last I looked, including some late editions with mod cons.

Thanks Mr B V, but 9 mpg [over here] and having horrendous Jimmy Saville connotations..............as if I haven't spent enough time in hospitals recently!
