If you're wondering what a 400/45 tourer would look like, a few people have done this now using the Civic Aerodeck base.

Quite a smart thing.

Can't knock that for 200 sovs. Keep us posted on the economy figures Ken as I'd be interested to see what it does. My experience of CVTs is they can be juicier than normal autos, not that it really matters for the price you paid!

Shitting Norah, that's a massive bargain. Top bombing.

Class, that looks superb.

45s from 52 plate IIRC got a light facelift on the dash (instead of walnut insert on the dash it had wood that looked like it was from a 1970s record player) and the seats were changed for a different type. They really started to have stuff cut out by 02... mine was an 02 and the volumetric alarm was gone, padding on the centre console, heating ducting to the back etc. They look nice but I never liked those seats in 45 or 75, especially in the 45 there is no passenger room at all because they're so damn big. The SRS light was on constantly as the passenger seat was always on the move depending on if there was or wasn't someone sitting the back seat and it pulled the connectors apart under the seats. I had the driver's seat all the way back which rendered the back right hand seat unusable but still didn't go back far enough to be comfortable (didn't in the 75 either). Mind, the only car I've ever been in that the driver's seat goes back far enough is a Vauxhall Signum... it didn't even need to be all the way back!

Have a look, you should find a tin of Wurthers in the glovebox. I'd love a Rover but I'm not that posh.

Nah, tin of travel sweets. Yum.

Quick quiz. Would I be:

A. Mad

B. Sensible

C. Fulfilling an Autoshite rite of passage

if I was to strike a deal with PBK to swap my 75 for this?

Head is uncertain but heart says yes. I've had a ZS in the past (and loved it) but always fancied a proper giffer-style 45 at some point and CVT would be a totally new experience.

Would it be worth the wrath of the wife?

£200 for the Rover 45 - Bloody bargain! B) I prefer these saloons to the hatchbacks.

Seems to be a reasonable number of these 400 series/45s that aren't leggy mileages and well cared for at sensible prices. Would be on my list if I was in the market for a shiter with reasonable running costs.

It is better to seek forgiveness afterwards than to seek permission before. I am biased in this matter so I will say go for it!

I had an this-shape 416 in the early 90s. Didn't have the nice seats yet but interior was OMGVELOURHEAVEN. Apart from some electrical oddities it was a pretty tough old thing. Father-in-law bought it from the Bay for about 69p and fixed it for me.
