Swap - My XM for something economical!

Does anyone like having petrol? No? Well fucking step this way sir!

Seriously though, I've been mulling this over fora while going by the success of the other swaps that have happened, and am biting the bullet.

I'm willing to swap my XM for something taxed, tested and economical. Preferably 4 doors and a boot, and with 3 pedals. I would sell it, but dont want to be without a car, and I only value it at £450-500 so almost cant be bothered for now.

The XM is great, and was liveable with before we moved further from my work, and on the route I go, the XM doesnt like it. It's more at home on the motorway. Sadly I do 16 miles of A road and 15 miles of M40. M40 is the economical bit, back road isnt. Long journeys it's better. I went up to wolverhampton and sitting at slightly illegal speeds had it puuring and sipping fuel. So, facing another month of fuel poverty (which I dont like anyway) and constantly on ebay and the tat thread looking at stuff, I thought I'd give this a crack!

MOT - August I think (will go into the loft and find the paperwork later)

Tax - 30th June

Tyres - 2 good winters on the front, 2 low somethings on the rear. Spare is flat, has been since I bought it. Linglonglang tyre included in sale, as it was with me!

Mileage is on 117600 (and going up)

2.0 TCT (the turbo one).

Only advisory on last MOT was for the child seat being fitted.

Only slight surface rust underneath

Have been told by citroen beardys that the strut tops are excellent

Uses little water (maybe half a coke bottle in 2k)

Uses no oil (there's always been a bit sprayed over the engine, tiny film but I checked it today after 3k and it was spot on)

Tyres hold air (again, checked after 3k and what a waste of 20p)

Cloth interior. No pictures atm as it looks like a skip and theres a fridge in the boot, but slight fag marks on the passenger seat, nothing anywhere else

Goes up and down!

Run for 2000 miles with hydraflush, and about 8k now on LHM. Citrobatics performed sporadically, normally loaded to the roof waiting for our tiny tip to have a space freaking out people behind me

Tape player for winnahs

I upgraded* the speakers with whatever modern tat I had at the time. CBA to remove them

Not so good points

Tiny crease in the rear drivers side door.

A few of the doorcard locking trim bits need fitting. I hate the job so their in a cubby hole somewhere

Keyfob needs a battery

Sunroof is sealed up, and the motor will be included in the boot. It does work, and work well, but leaks (or did)

Everything electrical works most of the time

Headlight washers are blocked, and needs the y piece of pipe to connect it up after I broke it. Do have it somewhere, might me in my toolbox)

Rear windows dont always go up or down. I use them so rarely I forget which, and they sometimes work

Rear fag lighter doesnt work

Rear drivers side seat doesnt lock back. Needs adjusting, I have briefly tried but never have anyone in the back

Few lines on the dot matrix. Someone here fixed it once

30mpg at best

16mpg if you fucking nutter it

No history of a cambelt

The centre sphere may need looking at.

Exhaust blows like a bastard. I do have the new clamp and sealent on the way so will probably sort that at the weekend now

So there you go! I;m after something that will potter around at OMGMPG to work and back. Prefrences are old and french (mk1 laguna, zx, bx) or old and whatever (mk1 derv mondeo would be fucking sweet) but I'm easy. All I ask is it comes with tax and mot for a month or so. I need to do 50 miles a day, so small non critical issues are fine, but not OMGbyebyeweekend ones. Can deal with almost illegal tyres too.

Any questions just ask. Slightly sad now, but I have to be realistic. If I still have it in August when I get my bonus it's going anyway. I'll just be able to buy something first.

Test drives welcome, Live in Thame but work in Marlow, can meet if not too far etc service station massive.

Off for a beer andto look at her now...

Breadvans 205 D? His over your way I believe and if his not looking for a swap you could buy the 205 cheap enough and flog ya XM?

Looks like a car for absolute winnerz. I'd love one of these one day (just not now, unfortunately).

Plan B is to check we can afford to tax Mr B's 205 if it's still around and do just that, flog the XM on as normal and I'll smoke around in that (Actually BV, is the 205 smoking or non smoking? .

No one moving house soon? You havent lived until you load it with a washing machine, 6 pieces of flatpack furniture, a few pc's, microwave, shit piled high on the passenger seat and drive without being on the bumpstops! Or take 5 recycling boxes and a black plastic bin of mud to your mother in laws and be able to spank it as it self levels at speed!

Special caution should be mentioned that it sinks when loaded and turned off, so you'll start to chuckstuff in fine, the about 15 minutes later crack your head on the tailgate...

That looks lovely!! And I have a bx! Though its worth less than your xm and in truth my work journey suits a diesel better, and the age of the xm will mean my favoured insurance will say no.

Whilst we're suggesting possible trades, doesn't dollywobbler fancy an xm? Plus I'm sure I read somewhere he may have been thinking of moving his bx estate on this year?

Not too fussed about value really, as long as I get a taxed and tested car then I'm in the same position.

If someone offered to swap it with a manual 2.1td then I'd bite their arms off. Its nothing personal about xm's!

My XM has been quite economical lately. Mainly because it has been sitting in a barn until I get around to getting the exhaust sorted - and now there is a LHM puddle by the rear offside wheel.

GLWTS.

Oh dear, hope it isn't terminal. This can be quite economical sitting on the m40 for an hour and a half with the engine off. Battery is very good btw

A mostly rust free body means it would be stupid to scrap for want of "service items". I'm just waiting for the weather to improve a bit and I will put it up on the ramps and vactan the front valance which seems to be the only flaky bit.

Posted

Ah yes, they all seem to go there. I slapped a load of rust go away around when I had the arches off to keep the surface rust at bay

Posted

did you sell the iMacs.

Posted

Yes some gentleman swapped me some money for them and I helped him to the car. Not bad considering they were free and were sat in the garage for 6 years

Posted

WTF - just realised there is no dyson on that stall! :?

Posted

No I don't like selling them at boot sales. Too many twats forcing the price down and no way of demonstrating them before sale (I don't have a Genny or invertor

Where is the exhaust blowing from?

Cat apparently, the rest has been done.

I do, but have no idea what I'm doing regarding the fleet at the moment, so net result is probably nothing. R-reg is too new though.

Its blowing from the join in the straight bit. Campbell had a lot of it replaced a few years ago and it is rust free. The old clamp won't nip up tight enough to seal everything.

Have new clamp and some paste on the way to hopefully cure it and make it sound less shit! When lifting off at 70 to come off at a junction etc it roars its arse off!
