Travels with L'Organiste

No I haven't been to France only to Kidderminster, well not quite Kidderminster but halfway between Stourbridge and Kidderminster, although it is classed as Kidderminster (apparently)!

I went to my first classic car gathering today. It was in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and every driver displaying a car donated to the charity. It was held in a field behind a pub called the Wagon and Horses and this gathering (they don't call it a club) meets twice a month, on a Monday evening and a Sunday afternoon.

Anyway I got some photo's I could only stay for an hour or so as I was on organ playing duties this afternoon but there were around forty cars when I left.

I took some photo's with my mobile telephone. They are not of great quality and due to the showers the sky was dark so there are some dark shots. I will try and do better in future!

This Granada was spotless even under the bonnet. I get the impression some of these cars only come out for shows though.

Nice original Beetle, I would love one like this!

The organisers Renault 11 GTL and Trabant which he started up for me, I was actually more excited about the Renault 11 though as it is on my car "bucket list"!

The Maxi and Allegro are both neighbours of mine, the owner lives round the corner. The Allegro is sporting and XR3 drivers seat as the Allegro seat collapsed and he is on about putting a Princess 2.0 'O' Series engine in it

TrabantandRenault11_zps174687c8.jpgDon't know how that happened!  Gr8 photoz skeelz!!

Yes thats true, I didn't really think about it when I was taking them.

The car next to the Porsche is another Borgward Isabella, previous generation to the light blue one that was next to it in another shot.

Nice, a bit of variety there!

Yes it's not bad considering they are all quite local.

The pub does great pork baps as well to top it all off!

Those Borgwards.....Luvverly things.    I am not sure on these but I think they are more  or less contemporary with each other, the coupe (two tone car) is a different shape to the saloon on which that convertible is based.   I am sure there is somebody on here who knows a lot more than me about these but I have not come across a converted saloon like that, although I have seen a coupe ragtop.   Think Baur did those, of later targa 3 series BM fame, but don't know about the saloon type.   Good  mix of stuff there, I like it when you just park up randomly instead of all the club stand, flappy flag nonsense.

Nice - Bewdley was full of DID motors/people going there. The Waggon on the Stourbridge road?

Yep that's the one by the Churchill junction. Looks like a good eatery as well.

They meet on the second Monday evening at 7pm and the last Sunday at mid-day onwards. They seem like a good bunch. Will definately be going again.

I love that in the Midlands there's still loads of BL stuff floating about.

Also interesting to see an Allegro with alloy wheels,I don't think I've ever seen anything other than Minilites or those notoriously leaky Equipe wheels on one before, anyone know what they are?

Well he used to have them on the Maxi, I think they are from a 90's Rover of some description.

There were a small number of convertibles made from saloons, I think on an aftermarket coachbuilt basis.  This one is a replica of those.

The wheels on the Red Allegro are from the late Rover 800 series range. Usually fitted on late Mk2 Rover 800s.

What a delightful collection and a rare treat to see two Borgwards.

There were two distinct Isabella Cabriolets offered by Borgward at the same time.

One was based on the Coupe:

the other on the saloon (Limousine):

Production was outsourced to the company Karl Deutsch in Cologne, and no other coachbuilder had a contract with the Borgward factory.

The one at the meeting is not a Deutsch effort.

Those headlight surrounds on the Maggie and Mini in the first shots, those ones that overhang the light at the top, are such overkill and the sign of overdoing it on a classic. Can't stand them, I had a few minis and never remember seeing those around back in the day. Nice shots though.
