Just bought Tetleysmooth"s Volvo 940 estate,Managed to raise cash after last weeks insurance moneygrab.

Nice to meet you Dave, wish you luck with your new purchase.

Anyway does anyone have a towbar to fit.

Nice to meet you too mate.

It's a nice car and should serve you very well. If I didn't have such a hankering for a V70, I'd never have sold it.

Good luck with the boot sales :-D

I find http://www.towequipe.co.uk/ (helpfully down for maintenance at the moment) to be the cheapest if you can't get a used one. Before trying to fit a towbar I strongly advise you to run an M12 tap up the captive nuts, especially on the side that doesn't have the towing eye in it.

There is a plug in the boot that you can plug a Volvo wiring kit into, or you can chop the plug off and connect the trailer sockets there. I think that bypasses the bulb failure warning system, if you tap into the rear lights you risk upsetting it and having the warning light on all the time.

how do you miss a Volvo estate?

Obviously, you can't!!!

Sympathy, you have about the same luck as my Mrs....not doubt they left a note of apology and a contact number to sort it out, yeah right.

When we bought the Benz it was for her, within 24hrs some bastard had rammed a door so hard onto the drivers door that it went through the plastic lower door cover and creased the whole door.

Within a week of buying the C2 VTS that gained a bloody great scrape on the drivers door.

Hilux got whacked on one of the doors within a couple of days brand new.

And just to confirm pattern the first time she took the Outback to Asda some arse hole scuffed the rear bumper badly.

Just in case you're wondering, no not a bloody note, even saying bollocks, between the lot.

WTF is up with people, increasingly scum bags rule, in the words of my late mum a good Irish girl--they need a bloody good kick up in the arse.

The only time I've ever scraped a car in a car park (scuffed the arch and bumper but no real denting) I left a note but heard nothing from them. Maybe they were so shocked at my basic good manners that they keeled over with a coronary. I suspect that if someone dinged my car but left a note, I'd probably just ignore it anyway, it's the principle of the thing that matters.

No consolation I know, but if it was a modern car it's probably taken its f***ing wing off!

Sorry to see what's happened to your new car after just a days ownership Dave.

It's always the way when buying a new car either that or it happens after you've spent all day cleaning and polishing the car to get it looking new again.

I would take it back to the previous owner using the SOGA act and tell him the paint fell off and it should be repainted and repaired under warranty.

You may or may not be aware of this place http://www.lakes4volvo.co.uk/

It's by the side of the A1 at Sandy. It's a disused petrol station crammed with just about every volvo from the last 30 years, roadworthy ones for sale, breakers and piles of spares.

Err, Dave, it was like that when you bought it mate.

I thought you noticed it when we did our walkround:

Collected my V70 today mate.

It's nowhere near as tidy as the 940, but it has bags of promise.

The remote fob doesn't work, the drivers window goes do-lally when raised and it has a noisy exhaust.

It's scruffy.

On the upside, it's lovely to drive, quick enough (2.5 20 valve) and I was still fresh after driving from Alton, Hants to Rainham, Essex.

And it was cheap.

TetleyS, I still have most of an 850 here breaking, it has that engine, and shares some other bits, so hit me up if you need anything. :)

I also have load cover sitting here if you want it for nowt

Ooo, I say. Do you have any exhaust, should I need it, presuming it will fit a V70 2.5?

Don't you know that 'occurred before purchase' scrapes and dents become invisible? My Corsa has loads, some even badly repaired but because they either weren't me, or didn't happen to me, I don't mutter, fists clenched "WHYYY I OUGHTTTAAA!!!!" every time I do clap eyes on them. Looks like it will, in this case, actually polish out!

I too have had this loads. I came out of the house one morning and saw the rear door on the Xantia was bent back slightly as someone had tried prying it open. Turns out someone had tried to but this was 3 years ago, I had just not noticed for the year of my ownership.

Never noticed it  to be honest....

Quite pleased actually, saves me fretting about it.

As it's now insured, hopefully you've been out and about in it.

Nice driver, isn't it.

I think this amusing scenario demonstrates that we have an equivalent to beer goggles that kicks in when we buy a car. All faults mysteriously vanish or are of no consequence!

Errr were the cars with your missus during these occasions? Are you sure she was telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth???

I'm only kidding. One of my exes was an awful driver,"someone" always damaged the front/rear of her car. Not her of course. Apart from when I saw her do it time and again.... But then again, she was bonkers and I am sure your mrs isn't. I'm not suggesting yours is by the way!! I'll shut it now....
