Surely the title should be.

"This is the reason why there are few old cars in Scotland...and why everybody* is buying up old Volvos from Southern Albion..."

There's a world of hurt sitting right there for someone.

Smear of filler and a rattle can paint job would sort it out!  Mike Brewer and Ed China are on the way to collect as we speak!

Yeah, that looks almost factory fresh for a Lancia!

A good clean & valet would have that looking quite presentable.

My Beta saloon is rustier than that!

I see no holes and the roof isn't rusty! Might be one of the best left... ;-)

Not many as solid as that. Scotland's good in the sense it's colder - and rust, being a chemcial reaction, requries heat.

It's a population thing. Most daily chod in Scotland is owned and used by us Sweatie Shitters.

The vast majority of chod I have bought has been sourced in the south. Some a places like Sarfend on Sea are chod Meccas.

Water and salt are the best things to encourage rust - something a Scottish winter is usually riddled with.  The warmer the climate, the less need for salt, the quicker water evaporates.  Keep it just around 0 celcius, roads need salt to prevent ice forming, and water doesn't evaporate...and is usually added to at least once a day because of the pish weather.  If you live on the west coast of Scotland, you can have great* fun watching car after car you own dissolve in front of your eyes no matter how hard you try to stop it.

Yep, wondered why my cars don't rust in summer. ;-)  Isn't the rust on the west coast often because of the mild, damp and salty air conditions rather than road salt? It's usually April when rust starts happening most quickly, with winter accumulations not washed away and rising temps.

I agree, though front arch lip and sill/ pillar/floor look a bit suspect. It has more moss than my lawn, no mean feat. Mind you, it's probably had more TLC in recent years.
