amazing wheels ! what the hell are they off ?    you can play astronauts and crosses on those !

Dugong, czech out this Charade club site......

http://www.daihatsu-drivers.co.uk/search/node/G11

Excellent link, cheers for that.

Don't know what those Enkeis are from - I think they were part of the burgeoning spread of aftermarket accessories that exploded in Japan from the late 'Seventies onward. Enkei and SSR became household names during this period.

Only just seen this thread, the Charade looks awesome.

Good work!

Wish my Micra was a decadent 5 speed.

Excellent purchase, sea-cow-san.

I must have missed that if you are. Let me know a rough area and I'll put the feelers out for you.

You won't have to go far to find a rough area in Peterborough! How far is too far for the storage - St. Ives?

Too far. Cannot cope.

Managed to take the Charade for a thrap this weekend. It's fun on twisting roads where it doesn't matter about power.

Engine doesn't seem to pull hard until 3000 RPM. Out of deference to the car and its low mileage I haven't taken it past 4500. It sounds incredibly but the drone gets tiresome on constant throttle. It turns in well and hangs on quite nicely given it has Runway tyres.

Some pipework bodgery and the world's smallest car battery. A friend's Laverda Jota uses a larger one. Pictures courtesy of my S3 because the Nikon was on loan.

C&B sticker still shouts loud, along with a matching tax disc holder.

Basic interior. Radio is missing but a 1985 mid-range Alpine will solve that one. Four spoke wheel and tacho denotes the CX model, which is top spec. Air vents look the same as those in a K10 Micra and the heater fan switch appears to be shared with my old 1978 Celeste. I keep the cigarette lighter button out because it jams in the slot. Wouldn't even do 'Free Bird'.

Dug out a six-car CAR supermini comparison test in which the Charade came last. It was mid-pack in terms of performance but its size counted against it - even the Metro outscored it.

Never mind.

I prefer that to the Alto, everything about the Daihatsu screams class compared to the Alto.

'C & B' - good job the full name is there otherwise I'd have to assume it meant cock & balls.

They must have worked on the droning engine by the time they got to the Sirion. It's turbine smooth above 60mph. There is something delightful about dinky Daihatsus. A friend has just purchased the Domino that has been doing the rounds on Ebay for ever. He has boldly started a Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Daihatsu-Domino-Owners-club/538171082969665?ref=ts&fref=ts

That's because your Sirion has a 989cc EJ engine. Different engine family. Charade is a 993cc CB, The latter were all like that.

How have I missed this? Top bombing once again Dugonganabe.

That's the one that was in the spares section.  He'd have sold it a lot quicker if he'd advertised it in the classic cars bit.

Parts availability is better than I thought for these - provided you're willing to fork out for postage from Australia for the larger bits.
Mechanical items can be sourced here, but forget the official UK Daihatsu spares outlets. You end up trapped in a Kia showroom while one of the sales staff (clearly resentful at having to work on a Saturday) has to turn the parts computer back on and eventually tells you International Motors want £25 plus VAT for an oil filter,

So far I've sourced spark plugs and an air filter from eBay, the latter being a K&N because you can wash it out when it gets dirty. Hirst tells me the OEM cardboard filters aren't up to much, and Kenny & Norm's donut was only a tenner more with postage. Managed to scrape up a QH oil filter from Broadheath Halfords for under a decade.

If anyone knows of a full dealer mat set sat on a shelf somewhere and \ or original radio, do please get in touch!

Dugong  -  have "original radio"  -  how many do you want....   ?     :-D   they are AM only,

but you get lots of stations that don't exist on FM,  I get Radio Ireland on mine down in Cornwall  !

wanna swap for what you have fitted already?

and SPEEKAS, whatcha gonna do about them  -  there is only a single cardboard speaka on the left

end of the cardboard dash....  and I know all about trying to fit 8" ones into each (cardboard) door panel....

- not a lot of room in there to play about, so don't get it wrong  - ended up creating circular ply spacers in

a previous chinese-eye G11

It doesn't have anything fitted at all. I could do with an aerial as well - there's just a stump where the whip wire used to be. Not bothered about it being mono. Dunno what I could offer in exchange. PM me if you want,

Took the Charade to Rockingham yesterday. It did pretty well, all things considered, despite being the slowest car there by a comfortable margin.

Some wonderful variety at that meet it seems. Looks far more fun than a gathering in a field too!

Er, please everyone, still come to my gathering in a field. Thanks.

Performance modifications included a parking permit and RUNWAY radial tyres!

At Retro Cars '@ The Rock'. Got passed by everyone, but the Charade was huge fun to chuck around. Most people had to slow down for the Pif Paf chicane ; I didn't. I blasted through in third and had to slow down every time I ended up behind someone. Of course, they buggered off at the first sign of a straight, but it was interesting nonetheless. Bloke in a Mark III XR2i spun in front of me, and I saw 80 mph on the back straight for a fraction of a second before having to brake.

I took most of the corners in second and third. The car used 1/4 of a tank for the 20 or so laps we did, before a ditched Caterham called bollocks to it all. The engine didn't use any oil or water and was happy to run right around the rev range.

Decided to go back via the A47 as it was the most expedient route from Rockingham. Happened upon an ex-Daihatsu dealer in Oakham.....
