rover 213s update

as you well know I got a tidy looking 213s,  well after spending out on a carb clean, fuel pipes checked for blockages and the fuel tank cleaned out to get it running well, theres a blot on the land scape, it needs welding on the o/s sill and floor to sill area, looks to be straight forward if you can weld but alas I cant and I need to get the rover sd1 sorted out, so it is for sale its still moted for a couple of months and its taxed, bodly its not to bad but it is saveable the engine is sweet, changes gear well but the clutch is high, so how much do you reckon I could get for it, id rather it went to someone on here as it deserves a good chance of servival.

Those bloody things give Alfasuds a run for their money in the rust department. My old one went from 'OK' to 'rotbox' within a year of daily use.

Still, they're otherwise amazing little cars and I'd love to have another one ! Needless to say, I will be watching the auction closely !

£200ish sounds very reasonable ! I had sold mine for £250 and it had more miles than yours, no T&T and needed both sills doing.

I forecast an Autoshite bidding war coming

I'm not after one myself, so shall not partake.

I just wanted to know what he wants for it. I hope it heads Chez-Bollocks-wards, it'll be an enjoyable read on the AWARD-WINNING SHITE-FIXING BLOG FO SHO.

That blog is on a life support machine, its touch and go at the moment

Looks NEAT.  I almost bought one of these nearly-new in '87, until I saw how much the finance charges were.  I reckon I'd still be paying it off now.

I've been wondering why that reg looked familiar and just assumed I was thinking Vanden Plas, in fact it was because of this

Ooooooh! Lad. If I wasnae here in the South of France, I reckon I'd have had that off ye. That said, I don't think I'd have been able to afford like I can now. Hmmm.....

Can someone please explain how this thing made it onto my watchlist?

Happens to me all the time... Once in a while, I also find bids that I certainly* haven't placed !

Haha, I'm not the winning bidder.

Oh shit, maybe I am now.

Gutted still...I was the one who had to leave it behind! Genuine buyer/seller though, more than I can say for "tim burt motors" in Rushden....knew the issue with the car, and has ignored all my messages since agreeing to refund me 180 quid for the car. Good luck to whoever gets it, I wish I could have got it back home. :(

Allan, we all have stories of epic shite collection roadtrips that have gone massively wrong... A few years ago, I took the train to London to collect a newly purchased 'paragon of German reliability' Merc W124. On the way back, the thing began misfiring in the worst London traffic jam I've ever been in. It then just died and simply wouldn't restart. You can imagine what this led to, and I was really, really lucky to avoid getting lynched on that day.

Anyway... The 213 ended at £350, which seems a fair price. Did a 'shitter get it in the end ?

No idea...but in my case I travelled 6 hours on train, which was 60, paid 350 for the car, 76 on road tax, 26 day insurance, then it broke down half a mile from sellers house...who did not say he was a motor trader until I googled his phone number. Then 70 on train back up, 40 on night's stay. Lastly the "old folks home" he recovered it from have confirmed the fuel pump (or blockage as it turned out) was there when he received it. He put it on his driveway at his house and knew full well it wouldn't go far (the words from his mouth: : As soon as it's off my drive I don't want to know about it"). Not what I wanted to hear as he totally changed his tune when I arrived. I can't do small claims but I will do everything I can do dissuade everybody against buying from him.

Blimey, what a scumbags trick, all for like £150 in his hand or whatever. Fingers crossed he gets testicular cancer. Karma. if you're going to pull stunts like that eventually you'll meet someone who brings the stricken car back to you and rolls it down the hill, into your garden and through your bay window ( or just knocks on the door then lamps you when you answer) so in my mind it just doesn't seem worth it long term.
