Douvrin engine wanted

Well, I fixorated the gears on the LNA yesterday, as far as it was possible to do so - the little adjustable link rod is fast running out of threads.  I think I've bent one of the shafts, but that's not something I'm going to straighten without a large amount of heat.  At least it'll now stay in first gear without me having to lean on the lever, although it's still nowhere near where it should be.

Anyway, the rattle in the gearbox has definitely got worse.  I'm not sure what's making it, and mechanic matey couldn't diagnose it without dropping the sump, but either way it's almost certainly going to need new bits, and with the noise it's making now I'm not sure I'd trust it on a long run.  What with the engine getting a little smoky on start-up and having an annoying part-throttle flat spot that nobody has yet managed to tweak away, and the fact that I'm a ham-fisted twat and will therefore almost certainly end up missing fourth gear again and bending things beyond repair, I've decided that the way forward is probably going to be to buy a complete replacement suitcase and drop it in.

Ideally I'd like a 1360 with a 5-speed 'box, but I know these things don't grow on trees nowadays so anything 1124cc or above would do.  Don't really want to go down the 954 route - part of the LNA's appeal is that it's very high-geared for a 4-speed early '80s supermini so will cruise at 80+ without sounding like it's going to put a conrod through the block, and I'd lose that ability with a smaller engine.

The closer to Norfolkshire the better, and obvs the cheaper the better too, as long as the unit is half decent.

I dunno if Mike D's mate Matt still has my old 205 lurched at his place but that was a 1.1 Douvrin and was a good runner. Might worth asking him.

Windleys  scrapyard   in Tattershall Lincs   had a Citroen Visa in  a couple of weeks ago     if thats the type of thing your after ?

There'll be a 1360 in HK Motors in Wrexham, I reckon.

I'd also ask what engine that 52 plate 206 has in the other thread.......

The douvrin engine is the 'X' model, the suitcase engine which has nothing but the engine sizes in common with the later TU engines. I'm not saying a TU wouldn't fit, but it would need work...

Balls. A TU wouldn't fit at all. Buggeration.

Will keep my eyes skinned for an XW, XY or XZ suitcase.

I don't know if it's the same engine but Whip street in Ipswich have a red Visa sat there for scrap.

Bit gutted about it really, apparently it's mint but it's had a COD issued, why would you scrap it?!

Maybe an ungrateful family member cleared out Grandad's garage....

DVLA search doesn't recognise the reg so it's hard to tell at a glance what engine it's packing.

Is suspect your right, still annoying though. According to cartell.ie it's a "11 E" model.

It does annoy me as well Triggs that they have issued a COD for such a rare, and tidy looking little thing, but that's scappies for you nowadays

COD is such an awful scheme, that has led to the destruction of many a tidy and rare old car. This, and the FSO Polonez in Dumfries, are both criminal wastes. I bought my Maestro from a scrapyard first time around, the original owner scrapped it but fortunately the scrap merchant didn't issue a COD and put the car on Ebay instead. However, I have no doubt as to what would have happened if I hadn't bought it.

That's insanely frustrating. Not like Visas are common! If you can dredge the engine out of it, that would at least be some consolation. It will be the suitcase lump.

Shame it's all the way down in Ipswich, I think that H.Imp could probably use a few bits from that for his Visa.
