New Twingo-solid gold future shite?

I like it as well, but my initial reaction was that it will only sell to those people that really want a Fiat 500 without a useful boot.

It looks like a ripoff of the new Fiat 500.

Rear engine rear drive, sounds good, but I think it would put off quite a few people off, so I'm surprised they're doing that.

RR in the sporty ones I could understand, but I would have thought FF would be better for the usual new small car buyers..

Conveniently ignoring the Porsche 911 there...

and the Renault GTA (D501) and A610 amongst others.

Hideous, as all new cars, but I am really, really happy that manufacturers are again trying different engineering solutions in mainstream models !

with the Twingo taking on a new five-seat, four-door, rear-engined and rear-wheel drive layout. That formula has not been seen in mainstream European car design since the Hillman Imp went out of production in 1976.

Kind of all-over-the-place there.

Porsche mainstream?

Imp two door, four seats.

126 is a two door as is V6 Clio.

Smart is a two-seater.

660cc I-Car was not Euro mainstream.

Looks far too much like a Fiat 500 to me, although the configuration sounds interesting.

I would love a small automatic car with a decent, powerful engine but no doubt this will be powered by a puny 3 cylinder petrol like most of the other of its ilk.

Thank you, Professor Face...  :P  ;)

That'll learn me to read the link provided for 'contextual indicators'** before posting!

** Almost, but not quite, as fitted to - but rarely used on - leased Audis...

Article states it's not been seen on British roads since the Imp, not sure if this is correct.

Incorrect on several levels.

- Simca 1000

- VW Beetle

- Various Skodas

- Smart

- Aston-Martin Cygnet

- All the others I forgot

I like that. Fair play to Renault, they seem to have upped their game recently. Those new Meganes (esp. the sporty ones) look brilliant and the new Clios look nice too.

I completely disagree on that, I've got a mk3 Clio and think the new one looks crap with a rubbish interior, plus the sporty version only comes with an auto box, Meganes I agree look good and fancy 1 as my next car.

Not sure what Renault are up to ATM, they seem to be going a bit left field, they tried designing cars similar to VW Ford and Vauxhall and their cars weren't selling so they are now trying to sell cars on the oddball/unusual/quirky angle, instead of concentrating on making their conventional cars better they are pissing about with electric cars that are overpriced, aren't selling and are kinda fugly, eg the Twizy, Zoe and the Fluence which just looks like a booted megane they've made ugly. Deffo made the right decision killing the Espace, Kangoo car etc but not sure their new ideas are any better, and I actually liked the newest Laguna, was a nice car to drive and felt quite well built.

IQ was FWD, showed "Smart" up over how to build a small car properly. You got more seats and everything

I quite like that. IIRC is essentially the same as the next Smart Four Two or whatever its called.

I like the look of it too, and sort of hope it has a bootlid with a column of louvres going down either side of it.
