In response to my wanted ad for a Somerset on the Austin Counties website I was sent the following email this evening. I wonder if any of the cars are of interest to anyone here?

'Have an A40 Somerset for sale as I turned 70 years old at Christmas and no longer able to keep my five classics on the road. I am going to advertise four of my cars and keep one.

1953 A40 Somerset on the road and running £1.500

SPLIT SCREEN morris minor 1958 on road and running £1.500

A40 Farina 1960 (MK1) on road and running £1.500

Have two marinas both mot and running both automatic would like around £750.00 each would sell four cars for Ã‚£5.000 and keep one marina. I bought the somerset last year from a former counties club member who had it for 22 years. Original inside but tatty. Small rust bubble on o'/s front wing where it joins front panel lots of docs, comes with spare engine. Has recond engine fitted, great driver.
Cars in Aberdeenshire Scotland quite a bit from you best collected by trailor or transporter as is long way to drive cars that have only done
less than 100 ayear for along time I can be contacted at home evenings on ******* hope this info is of use to you or anyone else that you might know that may be interested. Yours, Archie'.

I have the chap's phone number if anyone fancies looking at any of these?

Maybe the title implied they were free? I've changed it now anyway.

I can't help thinking I'd enjoy one of those Marinas, but only if I had somewhere to keep it away from the public at night.  The A40... well that's an itch I'm always going to want to scratch, isn't it?  I'm sure I'll have another sometime, but I wouldn't want to have that much invested in it.  I'm just a mingebag, me.

Hope we can find good homes for these!

Any idea what body style the Marinas are?

Also not wanting to be anal, but the split-screen went out of production in 1956. They were never badged as Thousands, this nomenclature came about with the familar body style and 948cc engine for the 1957 model year.

The 803cc engine fitted to the split-screens was a pig.

The think the owner lives about a mile from me, can't be many blokes in the City of The White Audi that own two Marinas and a Split Screen Moggy!

The Marinas were both on ebay late last year for about a grand each. One was green, can't remember the other, might be white? He had the Minor when I moved here 9 years ago, can't say I've seen the Somerset or the A40.

If anyone wants me to go over for a butchers, let me know.

As above both Marinas were on the bay last year. They are both saloons think one has non standard or modified interior. Wouldnt mind one of them myself space and lack of cash prevents. Think they did need some work but not that much but that is only from memory. One i think is tax excempt or soon will be.One green and one white.Or if it not green it certainly a dark colour.

He stays over the other side of town not far from ARI. The white Marina saloon's eBay listing showed it beside an industrial unit however the photos of the green Marina was taken outside his house, the Moggy lives there too.
