The old ford has been off the road for a few years now sorn every year until I distracted the secretary by been knocked up in a RTA an we may* have missed the deadline with the declaration this last year. We may* have realised this a little late and tried to sorn it online though for some reason this was not possible, maybe because sorn now doesn't need to be done every year?

My recent letter states that my tat became untaxed on 01/12/13 and I must now pay a penalty of 80 rubs by 17/3/14 reduced to 40 if paid by 22/2/14 and the arrears of 18.75.

Do I now send them another* letter stating that I posted the sorn notice back in November and file the letter with my civil parking notice in the bin or should I just bend over?

For the record I ain't got a pot to piss in, the car is off the road in a locked garage and I'm not inclined to give this shower of c**ts any more of my hard earned than I already do.

Have a pic if you read this far

I got one of those and on the expert legal advice* of fellow shiters I just ignored it. Nothing heard back yet but it's only been a month or so, plus I've scrapped the car so they can't clamp it.

Posted

Thinking back I've paid two of these fines in the past though am pretty sure I've heard they can be told to foxtrot oscar which I'd be only too pleased to do.

The civil parking dudes have sent be a threatening letter at 2 months in which has been ignored, so that's going well so far.

tell them you did it & didn't receive conformation from them, do not payup time & again it has been proved in court they don't have a leg to stand on.

simply write an explanatory message on a plaster cast model of your cock and balls and post it to DVLA (use 'signed for' mail, otherwise they will deny all knowledge of ever having recieved the ceramic phallus)

The postage charges on size and weight would obviously rule this idea out though I shall use elements of it and send them a signed for note telling them to do one.

Thinking about it the first time I was dry bummed on this was on a beige Acclaim I had long since sold and the second time was on a failure to notify of ownership change or something so was nay relevant.

Thanks folks, I shall take the word of autoshite as the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

I've got a SORN declaration through for my now weighed-in 206 which is also off the DVLA compooter. Unbelievable.

They did scrap this mid December right? Still throwing good money after bad chasing it.

Bugger. I receieved a fine for not re-declaring SORN on the bike, as it ran out around the same time as moving house and I suspect they sent the reminder to the old address. I offered to pay £20 of the £40 'pay it early discounted rate', as I relucantly conceded it was partly my fault for not remembering. But by the time the bastards got back to me saying "No chance" I'd missed the deadline for paying early and had to pay the full £80!

Another moan - why, when you move house do they not put all the V5s in the same envelope? Waste of money if there's several vehicles at one address.

Posted

Putting them all in the same envelope? You don't think there is actually someone there doing this do you? Its all done by a machine, prints the envelope onto the pre folded paper off a stack or roll and then inserted into the pre paid envelope for mailing?

Posted

Yeah, I figured it probably wouldn't be some little old lady licking every single envelope. But automation would potentially make it easier to combine postage, although i guess if it's only a minority of people that it's needed for, there's no point in designing the system to do so.

I tried to SORN 3 online, it didn't work so that was all the effort I put in. I expect 3 fines in the mail. I will ring them and say, excuse me but I sent 3 V888 forms in the post nearly two months ago and keep checking online but they still aren't showing as sorned, can you confirm you have received my forms? If not please SORN them now while i am on the phone. And they will say no to that probably but that should get me off paying the fines.

I got a fine for not re-sorning my motor bike.

I was livid, i rang up and laid into this bloke. I told him to take me to court if he ever wanted to see the money.

Never heard anything about it again.

Essentially, ignore it. Its highly unlikely they'll follow through- especially now the rules have changed.

However, if they do, PM me. I can detail a route through......(nod/wink interface)

When I bought the most recent chod back in October it was already on SORN. Totally forgot that once ownership changed I had to re SORN. Checked and it was showing as unlicensed. Did the SORN on it last night online, but has been 3 months without. Is it likely I will get the statutory fine? So far have heard nothing. Now had the email SORN confirmation but expecting the worse.

Send them a handwritten letter, politely explaining that the owner of the vehicle no longer lives at this address. No more, no less. Sign it in your own signature and send it off.

Its worked for me twice!

Bumpity bum bump.

A nice little letter came the other day headed up by both the DVLA and Rossendales [Professional Debt Collectors]

Blaa blaa blaa pay £80

Failure to respond to this notice within 7 days will result in escalation of compliance activities. Non-payment of the penalty is a civil offence and may be pursued in the civil court under section 7a of the vehicle excise and registration act 1994.

According to the date on the letter it has taken 10 days to arrive on my door mat.

I've took the ignore option last time though feel a response may be required now so am going to take up Mr. Bickle on his offer. PM incoming.

Rossendales have a reputation for being nasty  over the phone google them  but dont phone them

Rossendales  , Sigma , Advantis

are three of the firms the dvlla "sell"  so called debts to

as i said plenty on google about them

This is of no help, but I'm going to tell you it anyway.  When I changed the ownership of the Renault into my name I asked DVLA to SORN it at the same time but they told me in writing that the car had been off the road so long that it wasn't an option and I needn't worry about it.

Posted

Rossendales are about the biggest bunch of c*nts going.  If it were me I would continue to ignore.  They're pretty much powerless despite all the bluster, and if you contact them it'll just encourage them to harass you more.

Posted

And I imagine contacting the dvla will not get them off my back either therefore being a waste of a good stamp.

Problem is that the other half gets a bit jittery about all this stuff and is firmly in the pay up to avoid the hassle camp. I'm very much in the prize the money from my cold dead hands camp so as you can imagine it courses some friction in the family home.

Posted

I've got about 5 letters from Rossendales, demanding £80. Quite threaening in nature but when you read it properly it's all just total BS. "we now have the option of maybe possibly taking you to court. please pay us" e.t.c.

as its took 10 days to arrive you'd have had hassle 3 days ago if it ment anything, file it away for future use but ignore it.

Thanks chaps, much obliged as ever.

I don't think they can even take you to court for the alleged debt anyway, they have to refer it back to the DVLA for them to do it. It's DVLA policy not to pursue SORN through the courts apparently, presumably because they never win. The whole escapade is pointless.

I would be interested to hear Breadvan's take on this - him be a lawyer and all that.

I got one of these threatening letters a couple of years ago, as I'd trusted Quirky-Classics on Retro-Rides to send a V5 off when I swapped a car with him. Stupidly, I forgot the paperwork on the day and posted it to him signed, and ready to go. He did f*ck all, shifted the car on but the V5 remained in my name. I moved house, forgot all about it. Then I got a demand in the post because it hadn't been declared SORN.

I spoke to the DVLA and got myself removed as owner of the vehicle, but this firm was still demanding £80. I filed it under 'sue me' and thankfully so far, they haven't.

Effin dvla. Bet every penny they make is spent twice over by the NHS on account of all the high blood pressure.
