Triumph 2000 - project - any interest?

Toe in water here -

I've got a 1974 Triumph 2000 4 speed with overdrive. I bought this car in the summer of 2012 and used it until about 12 months ago when I took it off the road, it needs some bodywork.

Since then time etc has dragged on, were it mechanical issues it would be back on the road months ago but bodywork takes longer and there is a bit to do.

This car has one of the most comprehensive histories I have EVA read - including original owner's letter exchange to Triumph asking them to explain why the car was delivered with 2 inches of water in the boot!

Interior is brown velour woodwork is ok.

It has a period radio.

The engine is sweet as in this car and it has been well maintained over the years, twin SU straight six, lovely burble, handles like a dream. brakes etc were good as were the shocks.

The car was owned by an enthusiast for years, bi annually he stripped off the under seal, treated corrosion and then re applies d the under seal. However, the car was then sold to someone who was not as diligent at this and he let time takes its course - 4 years was enough for all sorts of horrors to happen under the underseal. The corroded areas are - front valance, the bottom of the A pillars and the rear of the rear wheel arches - all the classic 'exposed to salt spray' areas. It's a shame this car was under sealed, we always advise clients not to put such coatings on, its too easy for nasty stuff to happen behind them. Far better to use a good quality zinc paint and then use dinitrol, rustbuster or, if you really have to , waxoyl. then you can see problems.

Anyway, with new chod arriving I need to do some consolidation and I've come to the conclusion that this really needs to be moved on to somone who can give it the attention it needs and catch it before a few days welding turns into a restoration.

No price on this one - if you would be interested in taking this on, lets talk and agree. Giving shitters first dibs before it goes on the 'bay.

aye

I worked in BL warranty in the late 1970s, I expect the response was along the lines of that they had washed the car before delivery and the boot wasn't quite shut; rather than, what did you expect, it's been outside in a compound for six months, we skimped on the PDI and they all do that sir.

They're nice cars, but I already have one Triumph that I do nothing with and you are too far away, etc. (other internet excuses available)

One of these is firmly on my bucket list (ie list of shitty old buckets). I shall have to play the distance card though. And the lack of funds card. And the angry wife card.

Going to ask a stupid question but how hard are these to work on? I plan on having a project car this year partly to learn to weld. Woukd this be too much to take on as a first one?

quite straightforward, they are 'proper cars' ie - 3 boxes, engine the right way round, proper suspension, few unpredictable issues, huge support from the TOC and forums etc. they are large cars and will take up a good deal of garage space! none of this foreign nonsense like in citroens or any ridiculously over engineered box sections (Ignossis)

Forgot to add I have 4 GOOD HUB CAPZ

sills - they have inner and outers -

The bit 'photoed is the nastiest.

Had a good look over this with a friend who is restoring a similar - he commented that it's not too bad,

the car is far from a basket case and any work you carry out on it will add to its value as these are becoming desirable which is interesting given the flat market for them for years.

I'd rather see it go to a good home rather than put it on the bay for a breaker to buy. The engines get pinched as well.

I know it's a long shot but did you buy the car in the Bexhill area.

My neighbour had one just like that which he sold a year or two ago with 4 on the floor and overdrive I believe it was a 2 owner car and had ridiculously low mileage if it is the one..

I bought it off a guy in Yorkshire Dales, he'd had it for 4 months but I don;t know where he bought it from - I think it's done about 80k (need to check)

quite a distinctive colour - looks better in the flesh and silver grill.

It has the ULTIMATE GIFFER BADGE - a genuine CIVIL SERVICE MOTORING ASSOCIATION badge on the grill - how perfect - you can just imagine the bowler hat, pipe, Times and semi detached respectability that made the 1970's giffer!

It is fabulous and a major want. I miss my Triumphs. Where are you? Sadly could only do rock solid and regular payments of £70 pcm.

Nnnnnnnn, and it looks like Honeysuckle too. Oh FFS! I neeeeeed it in my life.

That is lovely. I hope someone on here can take it on.

Rich - you know I'm up for a challenge (remember that LPG XJ40 you allowed me to steal from you?) - but i think that shipping costs to the middle east would be prohibitive.

 BITCH!!!!

Someone had too.

I think these are a great looking car and am sure it will find a home as a project for someone with a mig or a willingness to buy one and learn.

My folks had a heap of one of these many moons back which my pops bodged up for years before eventually leaving it at the foot of a hill in Wiltshire when it failed repeated attempts to make it up the other side. Despite the aggro they had it is always remembered fondly.

Well I must say how disappointed I am with  you lot! I spend at least 4 minutes advertising this total bargain on this forum 24 hours ago and you miserable lot don't seem to realise that I fully expect you to bite off my arm for the privilege of spending at least a week welding. If its not gone by elevenses today I will be putting it on ebay for the banger racers and it will be YOUR FAULT

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Ok, ok. I could up my monthly payment option to £75. Any more than that and kittens will starve.

Dolomite, yeah ok, 1500?...... the 1300 is better IMHO. Have had bloody tons of the 1500 flavour and always lived in fear of bottom end grumbles. My last 1500 was a white 1500TC auto. Nice car actually. Another I should have kept.

A big Honeysuckle saloon, oh yeah!

Well luckily I have saved* this at the last minute from scrappage :-)

it is going to be a project for me and a way to learn to weld. Even the missus is quite happy for me to get it (at the moment)

I'd like to buy this but I'd rather string you along for months on end and then cap it off with a sad sob story. I R TREU CLASIC ENFUSIAST
