Wheel nut woes - same size socket will do

I had new tyres put on the back of the XM last week. Today I needed to go int Halfrauds to get some spade terminals for the back lights on the Safari so I took the XM. Half way there it started feeling a bit odd at the back so I stopped to see if I had a puncture. Tyre pressures were good but the wheel bolts on the nearside were all over the place. I managed to tighten up three and took a nut from the other side to make four tight connections. Two bolts are totally f*cked and the threads in the hub are just as bad.

Helicoils or a replacement hub?

I will be asking questions at the tyre fitting company first thing tomorrow. Like if there was already a problem why didn't they tell me and if there wasn't how did they make such a mess of changing a tyre, something they do all the time.

If the tyre fitters damaged it, get them to pay for the damage. And make it out to as bad as possible.

Did your wheels attempt to fall off before you had the tyre replaced?

No?

Then it's obvious who the blame lies with. Give them hell.

It sounds like they used a gun to put the wheel nuts back on and fucked up the threads. This is why I always put them on by hand, even if there is an impact gun or whatever available.

Those bloody rattle gun things are responsible for loads of stripped threads, buggered nuts, mutilated kittens and excessively tight wheel nuts.

Helicoils would do the job but if it was me I'd be happier with a replacement hub. There's always the risk of winding a helicoil out when you have to change a wheel at the side of the road in the pissing rain.

I heart my impact gun, but I always start threads off by hand.

OK, whoever pays for it I'm going to need a replacement hub and a set of wheel bolts.

Anyone breaking an XM? Or knows anyone breaking an XM? Is the hub the same as Xantia/Peugeot/horsey horseless?

Wasn't there a link on the eBay thread with someone breaking 19 XMs or something?

I suppose we can laugh, but plenty of poor innocent bastards have been killed because of such incompetence.

Go in and play holy fuck with them.

We may well have the parts in stock, I'll check tomorrow if I manage to remember!

Safari back lights rewired so I can use that as a back up vehicle for the XM instead of the other way around. :?

Hover over his name and a window will pop up.

The parrot found it for me, stomping across the keyboard. He keeps opening windows that I didn't know existed. Amazing really cos his head is so far in front of his feet he has no idea where he is putting them.

Lankytim is sending me a hub and bolts this week. Stand by for OMGwrongbitdrama.  :-D

I've never been found by a parrot before!
