Thank you all for your input. There really are a lot of decent cheap cars about. I have made my choice and I am collecting the 406 tomorrow. Unless of course it is catastrophically knackered, then I should be driving it home within the next 12 hours.

Oh, and for anyone who is critical of my absence from car forum postingness, I have been battling severe depression for the past year or so and have recently dealt with a marriage breakdown, all the while hanging on for dear life to my 12hr a day job..

My sympathies are with you mate, many of us here are battling life in some sort of way. Well done on buying the Peugeot, hopefully it'll be nice for you to cruise about in a bit of a barge after the 205.

Pandamonium, I'm also sorry to hear of your situation, and hope things work out ok for you in the end. The 406 does look a cracker though, one of the few 'moderns' I could ever see myself driving.

FWIW you have my support too, I've been to some of those places.

One place I have been is ownership of a 406, as documented 12 months ago on this very forum!  I was very happy with mine* - also a green P-reg 2.0 - so I can't see how you wouldn't be.  Best of luck.

 

*Even Cavette liked it, when he bought it from me.
