Any chance of a normal ad with some pics? some of us are too lazy to trawl through 18 pages looking for pics/details

No problem, as I say I was going to give it a good clean this weekend and take some fresh piccies so watch this space. :)

If only I had £950 spare I would be all over this. Hope it finds a decent home

If I had the cash available then I'd be booking a ticket to the north-east but as always it never works out that way :( GLWTS.

I'm not really expecting a quick sale so there will definitely be no 'must bee gon bi 2nite or i iz scraping it' shenanigans! :) It's really just because I fancy something completely different so I'm not desperate to shift it straight away although that would be nice of course. I'm quite happy to potter around in it for now and do a few more little jobs.

I haven't even advertised it anywhere else yet but I suppose I should stick it on the Sierra forum at some point.

No don't put it on the sierra forum, sell it here MEGA cheap.

Then I might me able to afford it.

p.s. It already is MEGA cheap.

Decided to order a new air filter as the K&N has been annoying me for some time now. Just a bit uncouth.

While I'm at it I should probably fit those spark plugs that have been in the glovebox for the last 18 months as well.

Just ordered one of those Powermax upgraded rotor arms as well as have wanted to see what they were like. Anyone here have any experience?

*sigh*

Okay, so after a lot of very hard thinking* this weekend I have come to the conclusion that I don't want to sell after all. I know, I know, I'm a knob...

On the contrary, you've just confirmed that you're not a knob.

Been there done that, I've written for sale ads for cars before, then gone out to take pics and decided I have to keep them.

I find the only way to sell a car I like is to not drive it or even sit in for a few weeks, so I forget how much I like it.

^^^ Yeah!

Glad you are keeping it. Good choice.

Well done for keeping it, sometimes it's indeed best to drive other cars around for a bit then re-acquaint yourself with car no.1 - that's how I used to do it about 5 years ago when running a Mk3 Fiesta and a Mk4 Astra SRi. Used the Astra for about 6 months and then the Fiesta over winter. Result was I kept the Fiesta for 3 years as I loved driving it as soon as it went back on the road again.

Bumped into the trolley park while parking. Just cosmetic, though, even the lights are working still. Just need a new bumper. :(

In other news this last month has seen binning the K&N for a standard filter which has been a great improvement. Also finally found a new console light and also new window switch panel. Now all I need is to replace the gear selector surround. It's amazing how much nicer an interior feels just by replacing a couple of bits of scruffy trim.

I was planning on new tyres this month but of course I have bought FOADS SAAB so that will wait for a bit. In fact it looks like the Sierra may get laid up for a couple of months now while I sort out a new bumper.

See you should have sold it to me and this incident would have been avoided!

Shame it's not a Mondeo, you could have got away with gaffer tape otherwise ...

Are the bumpers for these easy to come by?

Good luck with finding a bumper; I think that they were rare twenty years ago.

Posted

Yep, the Ghia bumper was unique - the XR4i one may be the same/similar. The standard Sierra one won't do - the Sierra with that grille had a bumper with extra cooling slots.

Posted

Yup, unique. I'm pretty sure the XR4i is the same. Also the XR4x4 but is body coloured. I'd always planned on going body coloured anyway but just not right now! They do however turn up on ebay from time to time. There is even a NOS One up at the moment but A. it's a pattern part not a genuine Ford so who knows what the quality is like and B. its £66+postage so best part of 80 nicker. Ouch.

I'm happy to bide my time, though, and at least it happened after I put it through the MOT...

You were in Sainsbury's filling this beauty up early on Saturday morning?

If the bumper is unique to the Ghia does that go for those fog and spot lights to?

They are the same as the Cosworth/XR4x4/XR4i so yes they can go for a good few quid on ebay, mainly due to the Cosworth tax - this is why I am very glad that they were undamaged!

Was it in Washington? If so, yes, most probably me!

I remember wondering, about 20 years ago when my dad's front bumper was colour toned in blue but the rear one was grey.

"Colour toned".  Remember that? Basically grey with a slight tinge of body colour? Made body-colour bumpers look cheap and tacky IMO.

A 2.0 Ghia (manual) in Glacier Blue is definitely on my bucket list for reasons of sheer nostalgia.

Actually, and sorry about DP, it's suddenly occurred to me what a fantastic idea owning an early hi-spec Sierra is.

Lets look at the evidence:

Simple mechanical layout, bare minimum of electronic intervention, non-interference engine, spacious, comfortable interior, folding seats for shite haulage missions, Ghia has as many luxury appointments as a current BMW 3-Series (leccy windows, mirrors, lumbar seats, illuminated vanity mirrors etc), decent fuel economy, very tall fifth gear for motorway cruising, rear wheel drive and 165/70 / 13 tyres for CUNTry lane and roundabout fun / games, decent build quality (and much better rot resistance on the early '82-84 cars...

And, as an added bonus, the styling now looks absolutely wonderful.

I truly believe the Sierra's day in the sun is due.

I knew if I kept things long enough they would be worth something, they have been moved to 4 houses with me and still are I'm one piece.
