Hello folks;

My latest 'aquisition' arrived from BenjyP10 yesterday! [in a trade] whilst I was in the middle of shiftwork. Only got chance to look at it today.

It has quickly occupied the slot left with the departure of the Samara but at least it will be off the road there now and not annoying the neighbours [who on our street think that the space outside their home on the cul-de-sac is sacrosanct for them. Its been a case of moving cars on and off the garage front for weeks when I want to work in there!

Anyway, I've long been an admirer of Andre Citroen but apart from the brief sojourn with the Renault I have never owned a French car, until the arrival of the AX. It's supposed to be a "limited" edition, which seems on examination to be a limitation of the spec to "povo and beyond" lol. Its a "Splash" which the DVLA indicates there's only a dozen on the road now. It doesn't even have a clock or a temperature gauge, yet 'boasts' a rear wiper and a radio. Its been reasonably well looked after and only done just under 22k. Its had the inner front wheelarches repaired and welded [very neatly] and apparently that is quite a weak point on them.[?] Also the front of the offside sill, its not a great repair but I may well have it redone at some point by someone who knows more about what they're doing! :D

However all the rest of the body seems to be really good but on the interior its clear the trim is fragile! The dash is cracked in numerous places [they all do that Sir], inner wheelarch trim inside is floppy, half the drivers door rake adjustment is just not there and the seat base won't adjust either. I ought to be able to replace most of the trim parts - anyone know of a MK1 AX being stripped for spares or made into a GT replica? I could use some of the interior trim for sure.

I think I quite like it. I hardly remember them being around here that much, despite the fact there is a local Citroen dealer. I remember seeing many more of the BX. One day I would like a Visa or even a GSA.

I think I was at a wedding last February with that car. I drove a red 120LE in convoy with a yellow one. EDIT - was that you driving it?

Err, yes, that would have been me sat opposite you at the reception. Lol. ;)

What's the name of that colour? Anybody?

Champagne Beige.

It was brave, but actually, they're pretty simple to work with, I mean, the design was done before WW1 and pretty much unchanged. Also, there is almost nothing you cannot get for a T in the way of spares. If I'd curbed it and broken the wheel I could have got a wooden spoke by air mail from the states in a few days ;) Or from Tucketts in the UK. I bought my car from Neil when I'd sold three of my "fleet" of Hillmans. I had the money and didn't have kids, so it worked, for a while! I'd certainly have one again. The club seemed a bit snobbish [my impression] about RHD versus LHD, and of course a British one costs WAY more ;)

Aye. This proves how utterly shot my memory has been this week! I've been struggling to remember folk I met the other week...

Don't worry. Memory, whats that? My other half keeps telling me to downsize my collection of old stuff and yet another car arrived this week..... ;)

Took the car to work a couple of days to see how it drives, what needs doing etc.

Dash top has several large cracks in the top, making it creak and groan, annoying but live-with-able, for now.

N/S wing repeater and front indicator not working, bulb ok, maybe chafed wiring or something, still working on. Possibly a loose connector as it seems alright for now.

Missing part of the seat adjustment mechanism nearest the door on the drivers seat and both seats were very difficult to adjust, partially siezed mech. I noticed it had failed a previous MOT on loose seat so checked underneath. Oversized replacement bolt fitted and screwed in tight against the adjusting rail preventing the seat being adjusted - Doh. Greased, oiled and freed off the mech.

Radio works about as well as my valve radio at home, where we live near some huge great satelite comms dishes making the reception crap.. is this likely to be the aerial [do they deteriorate?], wiring or the radio just being old.? I know nothing much about old car audio.

I need to have a good look around under the bonnet and look at what needs cleaning up and sorting out. In the main it runs well and its had the cam belt and tensioner done.
