Oooh, cheers Station.

Does it have the filler flap lock? Send me a PM and tell me how I can send you some beer vouchers.

Very nice little car indeed. Fixing the little things is all part of the bonding process. Love it.

Yes, it has everything! I bought a Micra for £125 for the very reason the fella's missus broke the ignition and couldn't get the key out. I got new locks and kept the old ones just in case.

Oh, well if you want to part with it then, let me know and how much etc etc.

Might have hit a brick wall with regards the tailgate struts.

The firm that claim to be able to re gas them can only do so if they are standard struts - Cherry ones are apparently not owing to the fixings. They can offer to remove the fixings and weld them onto their own struts at a cost of £140 - somewhat more than the £14/ strut to re-gas.

So for now the broom handle affair will have to be the answer.

Allegedly Mk1 (K10) Micra struts fit, but there again I have heard on another forum that they dont.

Annoying. But not the end of the world. Bought some high build primer whilst I was in Halfrauds and nearly treated it to some new mats by Cannon what were in the reduced pile, but reasoned that I have spent enough on it for now.

Only today did I realise that it has "Spirit" wheel trims! Nice 8)

A bonding process is often part of fixing the little things.

The K10 struts that I tried had different fixings, although knowing Nissan they could've changed them at least once during production.

Any enlightenment on what that switch does before I flick it and possibly condemn the whole of Lancashire to a firey death Mr Duke?

A Heath Robinson approach suggested today by my mate Bob the Builder who popped round for a brew and to discuss his latest purchase (not one , but two Morris 10-4's) is to use a bonnet stay to keep the tailgate open. Its a possibility and one I may look at as it will be a quick job with the mig to attach one....

Just a thought about the struts. Have you tried bus fittings places? The struts they use usually come in various sizes, strokes and strengths and usually come as a generic unit with screw on end fittings that could match up with what you need.

It did absolutely nothing when I flicked it :-D  I think a previous owner had rigged up a rather pointless immobiliser, which has long since been out of use/fallen off.

There is a "Selmar" alarm under the bonnet that appears redundant , there is also another "mystery key switch" under the dash too.

Went for a family outing in it today to see Santa - all five of the clan in the Cherry.

Mudflaps scrape the ground on extreme cornering!  Much fun :D

Cleaned the Cherry and took it for a Boxing day ride today, as well as the more obvious dash switch of doom i found in earlier posts there is this more hidden international keyswitch of mystery under the dash discovered whilst removing the radio to access the little 1a fuse at the back....

Fuel filler lock seems to be more responsive after its 2 week soak in 5w40 oil.

Posted

The plot thickens... that keyswitch is definitely a professional or factory fit, though.

Posted

Switch looks almost certainly to be a lucas item , not usually factory in Jap stuff , whats the key letters , could be FS , FA , FP or FT if it is , then again i could be totally wrong

Posted

No idea, I dont have a key to fit it - there are wires running from it but i havent traced them to see if they lead to anything.

Posted

Can you get a pic of the rear of it , il soon tell you if it is or not

In 7 months, I never even noticed that keyswitch!  I certainly didn't have a key for it.  I'll be most interested to see what it does, if you manage to find out.

In other news, I must download the pics from my camera so you can have the obligatory petrol-station shot!  Given it was night, it turned out ok.  I'll try to arrange that before the end of the year.  Oh... it's bedtime on December 26th already....

As I was saying about OPS shots... not one but two!  I forgot I'd done another one, so here they are.

Switch is definitely an old Wilmot Breedon/ Lucas one, as fitted to lots of British cars up until the 1970's. I can't help you with what its purpose on the Cherry is though!

No, its a bit weird.

There are some wires (2, possibly 3) coming off teh back of it that I can feel, but I cant trace where they are going.

Cheers Eddy, my arse looks huge in them jeans.

Took it out for a jaunt today to do a spot of geocaching. Apart from fitting the red 50th badge to it I have done nowt else for now.

Good buy. I used to have one of these 20 years ago when I was 18 or so. Not much of a fanny magnet but it went like the clappers and never let me down ( even when I put it through a hedge!) Junior should be pleased with it!

Took the Cherry out for possibly its last run for a couple of months as its SORNed from the 29th of the month(!) whilst we save a few quid and start work on some bits of bodywork.

Im contemplating replacing the shockers too as these are a bit tired and the ride is very wallowy - five up the rears are scraping on corners, though three up its fine and there are no alarming noises to be heard.

Covered about 200 miles today looking at caravans and then on the way back from Chorley threw a £5 Kosovo Kar Wash and Wax at it - south of the wing tops the car looks ace except for the aforementioned rust blebs, but north of the wing tops the paint is oxidising.

I'll try some cutting compound to start with, but its looking increasingly likely that the whole car will need a blow over at some point - if we do this then a decision will be made about the aftermarket sunshine roof - whether this stays or whether it gets binned and a new roof lining made up to fit. Sounds drastic? Well, perhaps, perhaps not.

Milladdo is keen to try to get the car looking as original as possible though personally I think this is a step too far, but we will see.

Doesnt really show it on this photo, but its going on top.

There is a little bit of rust under the rear arches that appears to have been covered over at some point, so we will clean this off and see what teh state of play is there too and whether any remedial metal work is required, hopefully not as all appears solid on the inside.

Made a pleasant surprise discovery whilst fiddling with the passenger seat - the instruction book!

FIVE UP?????????  What are you doing to the poor old girl!  I don't think I ever had more than one passenger, mostly not even that.  Still, if she covered 200 miles for you, she didn't do too badly.

I'm with you over the sunroof, I think "restoring" the roof would be a step too far unless you're going back to bare metal all round.  That said, it's yours and his now so whatever you decide, goes.

I've always had a pet hatred of glass sunroofs (sunrooves?) so as long as the skills and resources can ensure a proper job, I reckon it'd be nice to delete it. Paint-wise, could you not get a proper colour match done, then just respray the bonnet?

Mysterious visitor to Chez MicraShed today and I now Can Haz dealer number plates...

1260851_235704603284451_544488955_n.jpg?

So thank you Mr Duke / Mr Ramrod - whichever one of you it was.

That'd be me  8)

I was collecting a van from Southport, so being as I fail miserably at posting things, it made sense to make a small detour and drop them off. If you're a real stickler for originality, you could ask Doovla if that number's free for re-issue - it would match all your windows then!

Thank you :)

D375 PAM is currently living on a 2008 VW Beetle rag top, presumably owned by Pamela.

Its handy having the originals though as I may get some copy dealer plates made up with the logo and font, the plates that are on have never looked quite right to me. And it will save having to swap the plates over if we ever "show" it.

I'd love to be next in line for 'AS village bike' if it ever comes up for sale again, I love these ol' Cherry's/Nissans in general.

I just bought four of those 50th badges off ebay.

No sign of Number 1 son wanting to relinquish this yet Im afraid.

He is even trying to get it taken into college as the next "project" vehicle - not sure I like that idea, not because I think it will be mistreated, but I know him and it will be "be careful with my car" to the other students, and I can see that quickly pissing them off.

Went to the open night at a rival college tonight and quite impressed with their workshop - they even made some metal people.
