DSdriver Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I thought it was a done deal that from next April cars first registered in 1973 would be zero rated for vehicle excise duty but apparently Divla aren't so sure, saying that it was only a proposal in the budget and nobody has got off their arse and done anything about actually making it happen.Well they had better get a move on if they don't want Parliament Square gridlocked with slow moving 40 year old chod on April 1st
Felly Magic Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 The Doovla is in termoil at the moment, and the remaining staff don't give a shit about anything to be honest
Partridge Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Seem as every time I deal with the DVLA they screw it up one way or another, I'm not holding my breath.
DSdriver Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 Before this thread just turns into another DVLA are tossers thread, I'm not sure if this is a Divla problem or Parliament not doing the law making bit.
Partridge Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I'm not even sure if they got it through Parliament did they?
Mr Livered Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I too have a feeling this is Parliament's fault, not the DVLA's. Charlie Croker 1
fordperv Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 why am i not surprised..... oh wait its because all politicians are bare faced liars who tell us plebs what we want to hear to get into power then repeatedly screw us any way they can without the courtesy of offering a reach around to cushion the blow DSdriver, Charlie Croker and eddyramrod 3
Des Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Parliaments fault, but DVLA are still tossers. Charlie Croker and DSdriver 2
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Abolish RFL I will start a poorly worded and mis-spelt petition to this effect on change.org in a minute. garethj 1
HillmanImp Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Parliament never do anything until the last minute. I don't even thing the 2014 act has had its first reading before the House of Commons yet (which I think this is going to be on, cant find it on the 2013 one). It should happen it just has a lot of readings before it gets Royal Ascent. AFAIK some items can be retrospective too as we know that prices go up the day after the budget don't they (?) when they are not written into legislation until several months later.
Junkman Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 They will - if none of my cars are 40 years old. They won't - if some or all of my cars are 40 years old. I'm living long enough to have understood these kinds of correlations by now. alf892, eddyramrod and HillmanImp 3
Des Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Free car tax only if your car is older than yourself. There! CortinaDave, Twiggy and alf892 3
Grundig Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 why am i not surprised..... oh wait its because all politicians are bare faced liars who tell us plebs what we want to hear to get into power then repeatedly screw us any way they can without the courtesy of offering a reach around to cushion the blow .. As sang by Paul Weller; What you see is what you getYou've made your bed, you'd better lie in itYou choose your leaders and place your trustAs their lies wash you down and their promises rustYou'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and gunsAnd the public wants what the public gets

mercrocker Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 They just pulled the plug on shipbuilding down here.....They are all fuckin liars. Countrys shite and its all their fault. They stopped telling the truth about RFL in 1936
FredTransit Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I just though 40 YEAR WTF?? Then realised a few of mine will be that age next year. When are they gonna make it rolling? Even if its 30 years rolling l can wait for the rest. I feel old.....
CortinaDave Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I'm pretty sure it's NOT a 40 year rolling exemption - that was presumed by the classic car press when the announcement was made, but in fact the government have only agreed to move exemption up one year to 1/1/74 then fix it again. Cunch of bunts.
Mr Livered Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Yes; of course if they do it every year we'll have a de facto rolling exemption like in the good old days - but this time the powers that be will be able to pull the plug on it easily whenever they feel like it, simply by doing... nothing at all. Thinking about the 25 year rolling exemption now, it seems amazing that cars could all be classified as historic and eligible for free tax right up until the late 80s. When they came up with the idea originally, 25 years old seemed really venerable, but much less so now.
nigel bickle Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 To you & me perhaps -but to the vast majority, 4 yrs old is knocking on, 7 is de-facto ,scrap. 40? Positively ancient Shouldn't be on the road at that age. Meh!
