I have a family event tomorrow, but I'll be sure to tell them about the awesome Bosch built in kitchen appliances pen I'm missing out on.

Or you could have had a Scenic with 26,000 "yeah, right" miles.

That turns out to be a lucky escape, I don't think I could have kept my hand down with that S500 on offer!

My excuse for not going is an am showing a welder my Visa GT in half an hour, fingers crossed he will take the job on.

This week's catalog of what you could have won.

I was very tempted by the lovely red Alfa 147 with the 2.0 petrol motor for only £250

I should add that the RX-8 was fucked, the place tasted of petrol after it had passed by.

So really it was my last two hurried choices that messed my game up, the Avensis and Corsa.

The first rule of the Auction Game (along with all the other first rules) is that if there's a Ka there, find a category for it.

Highlights for me were the RX8 that made my eyes sting, the Matiz with a towbar, and this transit that I'm not sure was LEZ compliant....

Was the RX8 cold? If so, then they all do that. It's the reason why they flood if you start them, move a short distance and shutdown the engine. Mine on a cold run in the winter without getting warm did 14mpg...

The sill on the matiz was a work of art. And what would you want to tow with 800cc? I'd have thought a garden waste trailer would be a struggle

Posted

I assume it's the older Matiz you're on about and not the 2009 one which for me seems to be the bargain on that sheet

It was the old one (lot 504) that had the towbar

Tell me more about that Benz so I can better sulk.

The Benz looked nice, and I don't want to think too hard about it, as I will sulk to.

Posted

I don't know, it was a blue one!

Most of it was blue. Half the sills were black, apart from the rusty brown bits.

What kind of nick was lot 100 in? I know they're as desirable as chlamydia but £700 seems cheap!

It was so ORANGE that anything about it's condition sort of faded into the background.

I suspect it was ok as I don't recall knackered paint or dodgy noises/smells.

Whatever the condition, you are still looking at a car where something potentially has passed it's rust by date given the normal Matiz build standards.

Some good buys in there. I really need to get myself down to one of these.

Posted

If by good buys, you mean cheap cars, then yes.

If you hang about in the carpark afterwards, you'll see the difference between cheap and good. The gold 307 for example did a FTP before getting to the main road.

Gotta be honest there's not much temptation there for me, although i might lick a 53-plate astra van for 235, I am currently suffering a minor want for one of them actually. Good to see the continuing existence of a proper old banger auction though. What extra do you have to pay on the hammer price?

Posted

They sell for so cheap though, that it's worth a punt for a laugh. I mean if a £100 Saab shits itself out the gate, you're not going to be that bothered!
