Good job I didn't go. Looks like something i'd bid on and get that look from the wife, that only wives can pull.

Posted

My god that's a crap photo. Clio has a jaunty angled passenger window.

Other highlights include the Audi A3 that ate it's own turbo in the carpark about ten minutes after sale, and a Vectra where every panel had been brillo padded.

Btw - if a Phaeton has a non functioning entertainment unit, is that expensive? And the double glazing?

Posted

Well,im on the lookout for something in lhd but i doubt Cannock will provide...

There's a place on the A513 just outside Lichfield that used to specialise in LHD.

I did, i will put up a full report sometime soon. Busy watching le man's 24 right now.

That bloody Merc cost me a great deal! I was offered the chance to substitute in a rusty Beemer, but that didn't feel fair. I took my medicine like a man. A man who's crap at valuing cars.

Posted

I did as well as usual - even by avoiding any Mercedes entanglements!

Posted

I was beaten by the wife. As usual. She can make me breakfast as compensation.

Lol, wish I'd been there but with 2 hire cars at mine because: work and hire place only open 'til 12:00 I wouldn't have made it. Plus I'm not eating as regularly at the moment (Ramadan) for the next couple of weeks. New auction game looks great!

Will be there next month hopefully if I'm not in Turkey.

I wonder if the availability of online MOT checks has harmed sale prices?

Example - lot 15, the ninety quid Vectra. MOT had three days to run when it went through the shed of despair, running a check shows it needs brake pads, discs and hoses, the sills are buggered, and hardly any of the lights work.

There's an 05 plate Fiesta that is out of MOT that comes back with similar tales of woe.

Posted

Wow. There was loads of interesting stuff in that one. Good job I didn't go.

Espace 4, Saab galore, s80, xj8 and Jeep v8 bi-fuel. I'd ended up with one of them for sure!

A premium barge Autoshitters delight.

Posted

You understand that they are all dogshit, yeah? The three Saabs especially reminded me of last-dog-in-the-pound and whilst the 3.0D Estate sounded nice, it sounded awful - every pulley in the engine bay was singing away.

Jeep came round twice to bump the price up, and the Espace looked like the local ASBO School had used it as a combined detention room and sticky sweet storeroom.

Posted

That's what the wife said the last time I went to Cannock. I just kept reminding her that these aren't sale ready cars and a lot of these will be on a forecourt next week after a quick clean. :D

Posted

A 3.0D v6 Saab has the god awful isuzu lump (exact same engine in a Renault Vel Satis & espace). So even if it was running sweet, it'd blow up soon anyway.

But still would like to have a go in one some time. For £275, its almost worth a shot to see how long it'll last.

To the exit of the carpark given the noise it was making, which is still further than the turbo on lot 55 went before dying.

For luxury barging then the Jag XJ looked very nice, though it had comedy instructions on making the rear doors open written in biro on one of the manuals. A child lock 'issue'.

Right then, shiters - high time we did this again.  And this time, Dollywobbler's going to buy* a car!

Saturday 24th Sept; 9.30ish at the Trucker's Rest on the A5, 10.45 at the Shed of Disappointment.

Posted

That does rely on the rather optimistic view that I won't buy a car in the intervening two weeks...

Posted

If you do, consider the size of the appreciative* crowd you can show it off to!

Who is volunteering to bring the toolkit for when it fails to make it past the burger van?

Don't forget that you need £100 cash to give the chap next to the auctioneer for when the hammer drops. I didn't know this when I went last time and all the cash machines nearby were broken or empty. (It probably was for the best to be honest)

I shall check with the family. Daughter went out a got a job, quite inconsiderately, because it requires a lift there and back. So it might just be me unless by some miracle a rural bus service is operational at 7am on a Saturday.
