capsuleboy Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I am about to move on to my third, yes third in a row, Fiat Multipla... The current one is a 53 plate, tatty, 138,000 miles which I've had from 2 years old.Its been fantastic, but now has a strange intermittent loss of power and to be honest its past its sell by date as everyday hack transport. The question is I have been offered £300 trade in, but I suspect I could get a better deal if its cash only.So stick or twist and face the Gumtree mouth breather clan to try and get a couple of hundred more for it?
Mr Lobster Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Given it has an issue, I'd just trade it in tbh. The potential for hassle for the sake of a couple of hundred quid is far too large I suspect. rml2345, Cavcraft and eddyramrod 3
retrogeezer Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Lankytim might be after a mulitpla, get in touch with him. You would get a better deal cash only too so could move it on for peanuts and help a brother out.
eddyramrod Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Trade it in. Hassles over, dead in the water. You need never see it again. That's what I did with the Blazer and ok, it meant lashing out a couple of grand on SlightlyChevy, but better that than keep throwing money at a big 4x4 that was never going to be worth more than it stood me, and that I didn't really need. Says a bloke with on-street parking only, and just bought a BFO Volvo to bring the fleet up to three! So that tells you what my advice is worth.
Cavcraft Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Even I'd say trade it. You probably will get £150 (or so) more on Gumtree but you will be constantly hassled by penniless twats. It's hard enough to shift cheap cars on there without receiving stupidly low offers, but make that car a sort of people carrier/family car and you will get every pissing clown in a 150 mile radius trying to get it for a fiver. Also because of this it'll probably end up in the hands of someone who just saw a car and a price, i.e didn't read the advert, then you'll get complaints when the [problem you described in the advert rears it's head. phil_lihp Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Trade-ins are definitely a stress-free option. Twice I've done this to move on cars which were riddled with problems - I didn't get a great price, in fact I lost a lot of money on one of them - but it was such a relief to get rid, safe in the knowledge that I'd never have to see or worry about the car again that it was worth it. You'd never be guaranteed to get a better price when selling privately anyway. eddyramrod 1
Lankytim Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Bet the loss of power is the EGR valve. I'll give you a fiver. R9UKE 1
Stroller133 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 WBAC? I used Trade my motor, but it was just basically a website to collect leads for franchisees. Got about the same as WBAC but didn't have to pay £50 fee to sell.
wackywacerwill Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I'd sell private and pocket the difference though I guess it just depends on how much you need the cash, personally I've put up (and will again) with a lot of hassle for the sake of 200 queens heads. Specify issues in the ad and feel no guilt when telling them to do one if they couldn't be bother to read it.
Vince70 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I would advertise on gumtree but put a free sim card in an old mobile while your selling the car then throw the sim card away once it's sold.I've never tried this myself but that's what I plan on doing next time I sell a car. Conrad D. Conelrad Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Cut it into small pieces with tin snips and dispose of it in your normal wheelie bin over the course of 400 weeks. After reading countless tales of gumtree/ebay selling on here I think that might be the quickest and least stressful way of getting rid of a cheap car. Vince70, rml2345 and Mr Lobster 3

Somewhere there's a landfill site with stacks of old Sim cards, probably containing various angry/upset/threatening answerphone messages. See also river Dee fish and duck. Charlie Croker 1
Split_Pin Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Deffo trade in, £300 for a Fiat with issues is a good price IMO. Hassle from thick cunts on eBay and can-chasing fuxkwits in Gumtree is massively not worth it. Charlie Croker 1
Lankytim Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Is it a diesel? I'm half tempted to just have it for spares. Got any pics?
