What are these like?

I saw this this morning with the luminescent sign in the window. On closer inspection, it revealed itself to be £150.

It still has tax until the end of the month, but not sure on MOT.

I've never been a huge fan of Volvo's, and even this cheap doesn't really light my fire, but if they're good for winter, can I do worse?

Surely for £150 you could weight it in and lose nothing?

Better than an Escort of Golf of the same age, especially at £150 :)

They rot. Beginning usually around the rear arches.

Theyre generally boring and unloved.

Apart from the turbots.

Electrics can be spastic. But rarely it seems.

Volvo Nerds say theyre not Volvos. Renault engines. Same as the 300 series. But with no RWD.

Before I could drive I've always wanted one of those, and a 480. If I ever scratch the itch it'll be with some form of estate now though

Posted

They're a bit like driving a Renault 19 only with heated seats and softer suspension

Posted

Fucking awful. But if you discover it's got a bit of MOT left, pass the details on. Erm, just so I can try and see how awful it is.

Ok MOT til June 2014, fvsh, 2 owners (father & son), just had cambelt and full service!

There's no rust that I can see and it drives fine. The lambda light keeps coming on which I assume is O2 sensor. It's a lil bit damp inside, it's hardly been used since 2003 when the fellas father died. It's in really good nick!

Get it bought. They are not bad little Volvo's. As said, rear arches can be poo. I had a 2.0 in white, bought on eBay for £21.

Flog it via the Ovlov forum for double.

Posted

Seriously if it's half as good as it sounds it must be a no brainer for 150!squid?

Posted

You could buy it, fix the sensor, use it till spring and still double your money. That looks bargaintastic.

Posted

Jump starting Volvos can put the lambda sond light on.Get it bought and run until the test runs out.Worry about the light then

Where's Richard who made the post about his twat of a neighbour parking up the chuff of his motor? Stick this in his neighbours place

This Volvo nerd says it is a Volvo. Yes they rot and there is Renner content but it has MOT so can't be that crusty. What engine is it? The B18U single point injection was a decent motor and the most common. 2.0's like to drink oil.

Total bargain! these are pretty quick too IIRC.

It's the 1.8 model and it's taxed till the end of the month apparently too.

I had a 1.8 si. It was heavy, thirsty, and bouncy. It was very easy to get the back out on roundabouts, not that I ever did of course. It didn't feel as well put together as 'proper' Volvos, but it didn't feel like a Renault. I'd have another one.

At that price you can't lose. I sold mine to someone who was going to break it for £125.

£150 for a freshly serviced, running, MOTd and tidy car and you're asking?  It doesn't matter what it is, get it bought!

Posted

I did buy it, the rear lights were leaking so sealed them up. Had a fish god sticker in rear window and tapes of hymns etc in the glovebox. Obviously our Lord was looking down on me while I was hoovering it at Sainsburys as some cunt stole my wallet from the car.

Posted

Get it bought.

There are no BAD £150 Volvos.

As someone who has had two MOTs out of a £150 Volvo, this is very true.

Never really took to the 400 for reasons only known to me, but even I'd have snaffled this for that price.

Lambda light apparantly isn't an ECU light so isn't an MOT fail, so say the Volvo chaps.

How did someone manage to steal your wallet then?? What a pisser!

As one of the members who shouted 'buy it' I now feel bad you are sat waiting for the RAC after being robbed.

Well I feel bad that you were robbed. Waiting for the RAC is par for the course really....There is probably not much up with it, is there?

I'll shut up now. I'm not helping am I?
