Best Diecast Model You've Seen

As the title suggests.

Personally, I like the Corgi models from the 70s, particularly the unusual ones that were the product of a mushroom-munching Corgi boffin.

For example,

As far as I know, Peter Parker did not have a fleet of weird vehicles like these.

From the ridiculous to the sublime,

I had this when I was a young shiter and managed to buy one on peaBay around 2006.

It cost a fair whack but I had to have it.

The Auto Art 1:18 Range Rover p38.

The detail is fantastic, all the body mouldings are there, the interior trim, the shape of the boot carpet etc.

Mine lives on a high shelf as one of the doors is held shut with blue tack, but then i only paid a fifth of the price of a good one.

Re Autoart, the best model I have experienced is their 1.18 Phaeton. Everything is perfectly proportioned, the fit of the panels is spot on and the colours are accurate. Slightly disappointingly light weight feeling, but more expensive 1:18s that I have that are also heavier are not as well put together. The best one that I have seen is a 1:18 scale Roewe 750. The detail is out if this world, even the petrol flap opens. It's on my list, very expensive though. Otto models look sublime , but I favour opening features at the small expense of the fineness if the detail.

Otto are a bit overrated IMO. I have an Autoart Volvo which is briliant, but my Minichamps E34 takes some beating.

That's the one I saw at Brands Hatch for £752! It's amazing though.

Even in scientific terms, this is fucking scarce.

I've seen them packed individually, and the Spidey/Jeep/Green Goblin set, but I have never seen this triple gift set in my life!

I've got one of these, same colour too. I've also got the E32 7-series in Silver. The detail on those are great. The 1/18 XM isn't bad either, I just wish I had one that was cracked all the way up one screen. I've also got the 1/18 Range-Rover as per Tayne.

Interstingly, the 7-series was the most expensive model I bought, £67 or something, the 5-series was the cheapest at £7.50!

You got a bargain there, Lordy. I paid £45 for my 5. Now worth much more, happily.

Your XM, is it Minichamps? I happen to be after a model of an XM right now.

I see where you are coming from - Otto are good but the main attraction is generally in that they produce stuff that nobody else does - Simca 1100Ti, Renault 30 etc - and the detail is very good but then they aren't cheap. Shame they aren't openable either.

For normal roadcars, Paudi are seriously good, detail is mega down to opening petrol caps and spare wheel covers and the like. Trouble is they only do newish stuff.  The CMC transporters are very, very impressive. We get a few CMCs for one of our regulars and they are very nice.

Couple of years ago, I saw the 1/8 or 1/6 scale (can't remember which) Tyrrell 6 wheeler by either Premium Classixs or TSM which was stunning. Did have a price of the best part of £2k mind...

I think it is Minichamps, I also have a 1/18 Peugeot 605 a 1/18 Renault 25 would be great to finish off the big French car collection. Most of my model cars are packed away after they started to take over my old room. When I next get access to the box, I shall take pics.

Also, if I can purchase myself a better conditioned 1/18 XM, you are welcome to the current one I have.

That's the thing. 106s seem to be in demand at the moment, but nobody else does decent large scale ones. I don't like not being able to open the doors and that on a model, it just seems like a museum piece then.

Am I right in thinking Paudi do made to order models? That was the impression I got from their site.

Oh and Mr Lobster, I'd really like an Xantia as well as an XM in my collection. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Paudi - no they are pretty much the same as most manufacturers in that they decide to make a model of a car and then do it. They've only just started being imported here and the stuff so far whilst its very good quality is perhaps a little mainstream although thats not neccesarily a bad thing.

Xantia > Leave it with me....

I've notcied that about Ottos, too. OK, I know we don't display our models upside down, but still...

The 806 is  brilliant.

Here is a Renault Safrane 1/18, no bids amd less than 1 hour to go:

I'd normally take a pop on it myself, but no job means no money coming in to replace what I've spent, need to avoid that right now.....

That's pretty cool...I have a 1:43 one, in green.

I own the best two diecast models I've ever seen, Sunstar London Routemaster and the older wartime RT. They are superb, just need display cases for them.

I have a Solido 1:18 XM in silver that you could buy from the dealers.

I've got one of those! Opening bonnet and boot but not doors and no steering.  Glorious thing. Got mine for £9 at Trago Mills in Liskeard.

Mo,

I have a Solido 1:18 XM in silver that you could buy from the dealers. It's got a decent box and everything.

Should I PM you some pictures?

Normally I wouldn't be up for selling it, but at the moment things aren't what you'd call 'normal'.

Yes please. I know what you mean, I'm out of work at the mo.

Those original 1.18 Solidos are bloody ace. Not great by todays standards but back in the early 1990s the detail and execution was way better than the alternative Bburago or Maisto. Ive got the 605. Its got a lovely box and has always smelled of fags. Id love the XM, its stunning.

Oh wow, I had one of those XMs!  Bought by my dad from a toy shop when I was about 8 I think, it had immensely squidgy soft suspension, the woman behind the counter tried to dissuade me from choosing it because the doors didn't open but I was dead set on it and loved it, no idea where it went but I'm now in a dangerously reminiscent mood looking for the old Solido and Bburago 1:18s I used to have.  They may not always have been brilliant quality but I couldn't get enough of them at the time.

Edit: I also had one of these, Dollywobbler would be proud.  This had very realistic suspension and fantastic little details, a properly heavy bit of kit too.

Yes!  Many of my models came from there on regular family trips down to Cornwall.  Ah, memories.

I've got those, and the Sunstar Bedford OB which is another cracking model. The Gilbow DMS is good as well, but the Sunstar gear is better...

In car model terms their Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman I've got from them is a good model, but the Minichamps gear takes the biscuit. The 5 series is an absolute corker.

One of these days I'll get one of their 1:43rd Volvo 740s too...

Ive got 2 Sunstar Routemasters, the Silver Lady and a red open topper. They are amazing, right down to the moquette on the seats.

Incidentally, does anyone know why those Sunstar Escort mk 3 models have rocketed in price on ebay, Reason I ask is that I have a yellow Xr3i one that Im not fond of (I much prefer the 1/25 Matchbox kit one that I have and also the 1.1l police car) and I was thinking that it might be worth selling on?

Yeah, they are pretty rare.

The last one to surface on Vectis was in 2009, that's like four or ten years ago!
