Decent special editions

Ok so we've had shite dealer specials, so what's at the other end of the spectrum, a good/worthwhile special edition, does such a thing exist?

It has to be a special edition, not a limited edition, they don't count.

It dawned on me earlier that shite special editions are still produced even now, for example, my father in law has a Meriva "Excite" this is basically a base model with dodgy alloys a USB socket and bluetooth, but otherwise as grim as the base model.

I honestly can't think of a good one, so what can you come up with?

My mate has a Zafira "Excite" that is the same as your Father in Laws

Nissan made a Primera GT SE with piped leather bigger alloys, there was also the Primers GT LE with chromaflair paint and different bigger wheels.

Why is it that special editions are always based on boggo spec cars and never mid range or top of the range cars?

I especially hate how with some cars you can't get some options on particular specs, e.g. (Before anyone says how shit they are I have no intention of buying one, just an example) you can't get 20" alloys for the Insignia Elite (range top model with leather, sat nav, climate, electric seats etc) but you can spec them on the SRi (which has manual windows in the back) so you either can have a sporty looking car or one more luxurious inside, but not both, dead annoying.

Does the Scorpio Ultima count? Wasn't that a fancy one to shift the last few units?

And what about the Focus edge? If I remember right that was a run out model with a few goodies worth having.

Discovery Anniversary (End of the 300Tdi with cream leather and all the bollocks etc....)

Defender Heritage. Painted original 1948ish colours and QC second to none.

Defender SVX. All the bollocks and  more lobbed in for good measure.

I had a 1994 Ultima.... hardly the last off the line, unless they realised it was going to flop REALLY early on....

Just thought of a good one:

Peugeot 309 GTi Goodwood.

Any Yenko Chevy except the Stinger II, no?

Granada Chasseur

Granada Injection

All Indy Pace Car editions (up to 1986, of course)

Camaro IROC-Z

AMC Rebel Machine and S/C Rambler

Holden Monaro GTS

NSU TT and TTS

All Mopar Rapid Transit models

Ford Torino Talladega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler

Dodge Charger Daytona and Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird

Any Chevrolet SS

But not the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-Spec Nismo G-Attack, because it was made after 1986 and hence is newfangled tosh.

There. I said it.

what about all those ridiculous fiat panda special editions. like dance, fizz, sky etc

Yep, you used to get all these wee cars with frisky names available in ludicrous colours

Didn't they do a Vauxhall Nova of some type which was a sport model or am I just making that up

I always thought it was "Sting"...but I googled it and you're right. I must be dilllyesxbxsic.

Apparently a Nova Swing is a science fiction novel

Something to do with a disturbance in the space time continuum - otherwise known as Vauxhall's design department

I have a 'fizz'.

Nothing added, just the carpet taken away and replaced with rubber flooring.

Not even a clock, though it has opening rear windows and a rear wash wipe which base 750 models didn't have.

Mind you i do have servo'd brakes so I can stop* without crashing into things.

Didn't someone do a Nena edition?

Mitsubishi Pajero Falco is certainly a missed opportunity...

How about the Cadillac Allante and Chrysler TC? Special editions or model series in their own right?

How about all those Cadillac Fleetwood editions?

Wasn't every Daimler since 1967 a special edition Jag?

Would 1980s Bentley turbos qualify? Only up to 1986 of course, but still.

I papped a Polish Golf Bon Jovi in my spotted thread.

The Peugeot Roland Garros were worth having, quite good spec. VW Storm editions equally good with leather and all the tricks.

Vauxhall gave up with the Calibra and all the special editions were numbered. SE2 was yellow I think, SE9 was a red V6 with leather and BBS alloys.

And VW also did a pink floyd edition mk3 golf.

And there's a Rolling Stones edition (based on their 'Voodoo Lounge' album) from about 1995/6.

Fiesta 1.4 Olympus Sport - I knew a well fit young nurse who had one of these back in the day

This one was quite depressing.

Also, I think that for most of the Citroen AX's life, it was impossible to get one that wasn't a special edition of some sort. Jazz and Jive and stuff.

Does the original Metro GTa count as a special edition? The best looking Metro I reckon. (6R4 excluding)

There were quite a few Lincoln Continental special editions.

Lipstick

Cartier

Bill Blass

Givenchy

Pucci

There probably were more, but these come to mind.

In the same era, there also was a Ford Bronco Eddy Bauer IIRC.

Smart have did a few special edition roadsters which were quite nice

There was the Roadster coupe racing edition which looked like the biturbo and also the finale edition and the best I thought was the roadster collectors edition in metallic brown with tan leather and their was also the bluewave roadster which came out just before the brabus roadster.

Would the smart cross blade be classed as a special edition fortwo or just a low volume car.
