Double (not so) Shite Unloading

As mentioned before the alien abduction of my earlier posting. The MGF and Jo la Taxi are sadly up for sale due to changed circumstances and an earlier obtaining of my 50th birthday pressie.

MGF has MOT until Feb/March 2014 and tax expires at the end of this month. No hassles with the car but does need a rear screen fitting (which I have). A tad over 50K miles and is uber lovely and reliable with no OMGHGF or coolant loss. AS price £599

Jo la Taxi - 331,000 miles and going strong with a new MOT. A bit of surface rust to sort out here and there and it will be taxed at the end of the month again. AS price £450.

My Mobylette will hopefully be going to our very own forum interweb guru.... Dave.

I'd like to keep the taxi for a short while before selling, maybe a month or so (maybe). Out of the two cars I love the taxi slightly more as it is simply a hoot to drive.

All in North London. Both cars are first turn of the key starters.

Short notice purchase of a Volvo Amazon earlier than my birthday in April is part of the reason for selling otherwise the keys to both cars would have to be prised from my cold, dead fingers. These have been the best 2 cars I have had in years. Simple as.

Let me know if any of the above is of interest.

Ta

Both of you are hazards, I mean hazarding correctly. Ex Keith Moody, who is a very nice man despite what his surname might hint at. As mentioned in a previous reality posting the car has had:

Sports exhaust

Correct cam

Rebuild

Twin carbs

Alternator conversion

New coil

Rad recore

Thermostat revamp

'Lecky fan fitted

Uprated manifold

Bilstein shocks

Overdrive

et al

Needs:

Seat covers

Little bits of trim sorting here and there

Minor bodywork doing

Nothing overly horrible or major apart from the seats.

Will be freshly MOT'd upon collection

Like an echo from the past AND future, I will approve of this, and say that it is totes amazeballs.

Cheers :D

I am in AS heaven and hell at the moment. The Amazon, taxi and MGF are all superfab but I am not able to remain in this state of AS nirvana as only the Amazon can stay with me. How ironic.

The Volvo is ace. Have pm'd you by the way.

They're not my cup of tea, but Watanabe has one on here. He's putting a Peugeot diesel in it.

I want the taxi!

Sorry guys for making a fluffy ad. The cab has tax till the end of the month. AS discount applies if it goes by then and it can be had for £400. If it goes beyond the end of the month I will have to re-tax it and I'd have to add that on obviously. Hope that makes more sense. Apologies.

I will chuck some MGF piccies up shortly for you.

I'm in London N9 - 5 mins away from Edmonton Green BR station.

Sorry for an confusion.

Cheers

You can just about see the leather seats in the last piccie. There is also a tonneau cover fitted. The new door card is in the boot and needs fitting (not hard at all). Tax is also up at the end of the month kiddies, so either get in there quick or bring some trade plates or a trailer.

Rear screen zips out, and then you drill rivets out from bottom support beam, and rivet it back in. ;)

They're good cars, although Jeremy Clarkson actually said they were good when they came out (not sure if he then said they were rubbish recently).

Posted

That's the way. Not hard but scary (if you're me that is as I am the most ham fisted git with a drill).

This Amazon had better do me proud otherwise I am going to be a very pissed off AS'er. Cannot believe I am looking to move on my 2 fave cars ever.

The problem with Clarkson is that he is so ignorant of cars, the universe and all the rest, that you cannot establish the rule that a car is good when he says it's rubbish and vice versa. It's completely random, hence best ignored altogether.

I totally agree with you.

More taxi orientated piccies, 'cos you lot like piccies.

Found a copy of this in the Beardmore, not sure when it was dated from.

I was kind of hoping the two taxi's would 'get it together' in the vain hope that they would have other taxi's so I wouldn't have to sell mine. No real chance in this dimension obviously.

Hope you liked the piccies.

Argh... I called my insurer about this, but they would only offer a limited SDP policy and the quote was frankly obscene !

Why do insurance companies hate those things ? Have they established that once someone gets behind the wheel of an FX4 he instantly morphs into a foul-mouthed Cockney cabbie ?

Posted

Yes, based on the fact that once someone gets behind the wheel of an FX4 he instantly morphs into a foul-mouthed Cockney cabbie.

Fack off ya stupid bleedin', oh sorry. Cor, that was a close shave.

Adrian Flux wanted arsehole related amounts of cash (£550 - I told them I'd never paid that amount in my life in relation to insuring anything and they said that the cab was a 'specialist vehicle' - really? I'm not sure what they made of thier email re: customer satisfaction survey that I emailed a couple of days later) but I got a bloody brilliant quote from Peter Best (£145 F/C and with me living in a shite area of North London and that was on a classic policy or their equivalent). Helps if it is garaged too.

Shop around or try Peter Best.

Sadly the AS'er who was going to purchase Jo on Monday has had to focus financially elsewhere due to a bit of a nasty surprise bill.

Soooooo, Jo la Taxi is still for sale for the very small sum of £400. She will need to be picked up from London before the end of the month as that is when the current road tax runs out. If this isn't the case then I will have to re-tax her and the price will unfortunately have to reflect this. So be quick.

The drivers door handle/lock thingy is tempremental. Just have to let you know.

So, the taxi has gone to live in Chester.

The MGF is still for sale at a firm £599. The tax will expire at the end of this month.

The MGF is now at a friends place near Colindale as the space in my garage is needed for the Amazon. SORN will be declared as appropriately re: the MG. The drive to Colindale this afternoon was full of A406 unhappiness, closed lanes, fuckwits, heavy traffic and kone kaos. The silver F did not miss a beat and despite the hot weather and traffic crap, the temp gauge needle did not venture further than just below 1/2.

If there is any interest then please get in touch.

Anyone?

SORN activating as of 1st Sept.

Posted

I'd absolutely love that MGF but work is just too manic. Shite-buying trips to London are out of the question (apparently). Which is a bummer because there seems little point in doing work other than to facilitate the purchase of shite.

Posted

Well the F is on my friends drive and time scales are pretty flexible. If I have no promising nibbles over the next month or so I will just have to say to Mrs. PBK that no-one wants the car, market flooded, not giving away for peanuts, blah, blah, blah and try and keep it.

Posted

I've seen that MG and it does look really nice. I can also vouch for Ken, as the cab I had off him is ace.

Posted

Cheers Billy.

Looked even better as I washed and polished it prior to it's journey to Colindale. It is such a smooth driving little car too.

By chance I was just thinking about investing in a reliable* rag-top for summer.  Which is why I was thinking of a kettle with the lid off in September.

Dumb question: has it ever had a new gasket, and if these are "done" does that keep HGF at bay?  Or does it make no difference?  Have no prior k-series experience as my R8 416 was the super-reliable* Honda-engined beast.

Posted

My understanding is that if it's had a decent HG put on (which I've got a feeling is a Freelander one) you should be ok. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Posted

I have no history with the car, so cannot say if it was done or not tbh. However, all I can say is that the car and I have have been in heavy stop/start London traffic in blisteringly hot weather with no problems whatsoever (apart from a sunburned noggin), no overheating or loss of coolant.

The LR one is a MLS one, however, this is not 100% guaranteed, some in the MGF club have had them fail, however, there are chinese one's which have worked super fab and have been used instead.
