Shitefest 2013 including Autoshite OVROAD Mongfest 13-15 September

I'll probably put the tailgate out on the Thursday, along with the other signage, so there is little chance of pikey scrap uplift. Not that that stuff happens around here anyway.

JohnF will sort them out if they do.

Right now it's propped outside our shed, safe enough.

From this angle you can see Malham and the field in the background:

I won't put it out on the road 'til next week. I don't want to scare away tourists, or give locals too much time to form prejudices about what's about to be inflicted on them!

Massive chortle at the tailgate signage :-D

There'll be plenty to do for non-4x4ers... target sports gubbins, chod bothering, and some fine countryside to wander around in shouting "Expelliarmus!" and wondering how people managed before mobile phones came along. Also some cracking rock climbing on limestone if you're into that... more info at http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=610

Not sure how I've got a reputation for sorting out pikeys though... it's the RIGR BOOTS, isn't it? Not my fault, I was issued them when I bought the Land Rover

the yha in malham 2 mins walk from the pub is 18.50 a bed and 92 quid for a 4 person room.........

ATTN: ALL ATTENDEES WATCHING THIS THREAD, PLEASE REPLY WITHIN 24 HOURS WITH EITHER  "YHA" or "SETTLE" .

We need to sort this out first because of timings for Saturday depend on it.

We'll go with what the majority have said by this time tomorrow, because I've negotiated a bargain group menu at the Youth Hostel if you vote for it.

Right, Meals on Saturday night only.

YHA three course group menu, £7.95 each, SERVED AT 7PM SHARP:

(choice of starters)
carrot soup
fruit juice

(choice of mains)
beef chilli + rice
home-made pizza(V), chips, coleslaw
battered fish, chips, peas

(choice of puds)
homemade ginger sponge, custard
jam doughnut
yogurts
fresh fruit

At Malham Youth Hostel, 5-6 mins walk from the field, close to the pubs. How about a snifter on the way, and one on the way back?

Forgot to ask about drinks, they do sell some, not sure about beers etc there. Timing is important. We'd give them our choices and numbers at breakfast time on Saturday.

--- OR ---

We pile into a few motors and drive 15-20 mins over the hill to the market town of Settle. Timing is not so important for this, obvz.

Around the square are several eateries and hostelries:

Choice of pubs, I don't know them.

Fish'n'chip shops x 2

Chinese take-away

Indian restaurant - a FULL belly for £12.50-ish. Take in your own drinks free.

1 or 2 posher restaurants.

Also in town:

small supermarkets (Co-op, Booth's, Spar)

cash points

Co-op fuel (not cheap)

---------------------------

We don't need to know your meal preferences now, just reply below with either "YHA" or "SETTLE" for Sat. evening.

Democracy in action!

Ta for the reply, we were dropping off the front page already! I thought I'd killed the thread. Discussion may continue, but don't forget your vote!

Friday night - a simple pub dinner to keep it easy. Choice of two. We'll grab a menu from each and decide there and then. They probably stop taking orders 8.30 or 9pm.

this all sounds friggin ace but I can't make it as my liitle one is off on her first school holiday on the Sunday morning. :(

The Fisherman in Settle do THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS. And its only about £4.50. If the co-op petrol station is still open you can unusually get discounted stuff off the hot shelf in the evenings. Also sell donuts/ chocolate/ ice creams. Fish and Chips, and a Co-op pudding = circa £5/head.

Im voting Settle.

I am a non-drinkist so happy either way.

*COUGH* driver ;)

I think we'll be dibbing in to buy you fish and chips :)

Posted

I'm the only one liking the Shite option of a Youth Hostel then? Happy to settle for Settle though, but no curry. Also happy to be a designated driver as I don't drink.

Posted

I'm happy either way. I was just conscious that costs were adding up, so thought it might be an idea to offer a low-cost option.

Before we nail it down, we'll just see what this evening's posts say...

I'm sure a few quid extra for dinner won't really be too much bother for me, having driven all the way to North Yorkshire in a Discovery! Going out in a town is always a bit of a novelty too.

Posted

I wouldn't get too excited, Ian... Settle is pretty small (although it does have at least one good chippie)

Posted

Settle is 'the big smoke' around here - it has a cobblers and everything.

Settle

I could imagine trying to get a bunch of shiteists to a YHA for sit down meal at a pre-arranged time to be as easy as herding cats.

I voted Settle, but I wouldn't be surprised if dinner ended up being  a packet of crisps and a pint (or three) of Guinness in a Malham hostelry.

Posted

I guess if I make it I'll vote Settle too... the *idea* of YHA is appealing but I don't think I can actually go through with it... rather like Talbot ownership.

My attendance is back on too.  There's enough fuel in the Princess to do it and I've no plans for epic roadtrips between now and then.  Also, I've got a load of random Lucas things and bits of old cars that I'd like to offload on people.  I'll bring an Honesty Pot on the Saturday and all the crap and we'll see what sells, just bung whatever you feel stuff is worth in the pot and I'll be happy to see it rehomed, might even pay for my nosh or something while I'm there.

I can't stop for the weekend though, there is nobody to sit the animals here in my absence and I can't bring them with me.  Yes, I have considered OVROADIN in the Princess and dismissed as the most likely way to get myself stranded in the arse-end of nowhere.

Settle... Talbot...

OMG U R SIEKIK !!1!111!!

That's the first pub as we arrive in Settle from this side. It would be rude not to, wouldn't it?

At least for a swift one. Bagsy ride there in Edd's Samba soft-top!

As Andy_CMS said, it's Settled then.

I'll break the news to Martin at the YHA.

We'll still go there for our £4.99 slap-up hangover cure breakfast though, right?

Includes FULL ENGLISH, plus unlimited buffet of cereals, toast, croissants, etc., tea/coffee, juices, yogurts and so on.
